Nestled along the scenic Moselle River, Moselcamping Wolf offers a tranquil escape amidst vineyards and charming landscapes. This intimate campsite is located near Traben-Trarbach in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate. Enjoy breathtaking river views and easy access to hiking and biking trails. Wine tastings and the nearby vineyards add to the region's allure. There are 125 touring pitches on-site, of which 16Amp electric hook-up points are available. Many pitches boast prime riverfront locations, and dogs are welcome on leash.
Set among trees and fields in the hills at the eastern end of the Hunsrück, this friendly site is only 15 km. from the Rhine at Oberwesel. Bingen, Boppard and Koblenz are also reached easily via the A61 autobahn. In addition to 250 pitches for permanent caravans, there are 100 touring pitches with electricity connections (6A). Some are in the main part (for longer stays), others are in a more open situation opposite (caravans and tents are mixed together) and space is usually available. On site is an unusual pool for swimming (free of charge) fashioned from a natural basin and fed by springs.
Camping Park Weiherhof is a family run site in the Hoher Westerwald, an attractive nature protected area of meadows, forests and streams with over 250 km. of maintained trails, ideal for those who enjoy rambling or cycling, or simply to relax. Eight years ago Birgit and Helmut Stelzen took over the site and have developed it into a prize-winning environmentally friendly site. Of the 340 pitches, 140 are available to visitors, all with electricity (10-16A). They are gently sloping, on grass/gravel with some tree shade and hedge separation, 80 are fully serviced and some have a lakeside location. In places the Hoher Westerwald rises to over 650 metres and with its network of cycling and walking trails is ideal for those who enjoy a leisurely walk in natural surroundings or something more strenuous.
Camping Laacher See is located directly on the largest volcanic lake of the Vulkaneifel and is partially terraced. The spacious site offers pitches for both holiday and seasonal campers. All 108 touring pitches have electricity, water connections. The sanitary facilities are modern and well kept. Everyday necessities are available on site with a snack bar and restaurant where fresh baked goods, local dishes are available.Explore the beautiful region by bicycle with the whole family or relax at the lake where you can sail. You can also take a rowing or pedal boat and explore the Laacher See. The bathing area on the lake is also suitable for children or non-swimmers. The hiking trail around the Laacher See has a length of about 8 kilometers and passes right past the famous Benedictine Monastery Mara Laach.
This quiet countryside site, spread over 20 hectares, is situated close to the French and Luxembourg borders. With 980 pitches (600 for touring units), the site is constructed with 29 circular grassed areas, each surrounded by trees and containing no more than 25 pitches. This creates the impression that you are staying on a small site, although you do have the facilities provided by a larger one. A spacious central meadow opposite a lake is used for caravans and tents and is separated from a playing field by a tree-lined stream. This is a quiet and relatively unknown corner of Germany.
Camping Auf der Loreley is a natural site perched high over the Rhine valley offering spectacular views over the river deep below. Of the 100 pitches, there are 80 for touring units. The site is fairly open and is divided into large grass areas on various levels by hedges and simple fences. The pitches are unmarked, some slightly sloping with a few mature trees providing some shade. Some less accessible areas are reserved for tents. Most pitches can be provided with electricity (10/16A) although long cables may be necessary. Fresh water, as the jovial and helpful owner Paul Heinrich will tell you, comes out of a tree. From the terrace of the bar/restaurant there are views of the Rhine, although the best view is from a grass area near the cliff edge.
Camping Bockenauer Schweiz is a site in Bockenau, Rhineland-Palatinate, by a forest and river/stream. This site has pitches with some shade. It is possible to rent sun lodges, apartments and safari tents. The site is located in a wooded valley alongside a cycle path. On both sides of the stream are wooded hills.
From the Saar valley, a series of hairpin bends leads to this attractive hilltop site. From the site and approach road there are wonderful panoramic views of the Saar valley and the surrounding region. A large, well organised site, there are 429 numbered touring pitches of quite reasonable size on flat or slightly sloping ground, separated in small groups by trees and shrubs, all with electrical connections (16A). There are some tour operator pitches and a separate area with holiday bungalows to rent. This is a site with friendly, English-speaking reception staff, which should appeal to all age groups. July and August are very busy.
This site is on the banks of the Rhine between Bonn and Koblenz. Although there is an emphasis on permanent caravans, there are about 200 pitches for touring units (out of 500), most with 6A electricity and 100 with water and drainage. They are either in the central, more mature area or in a newer area where the numbered pitches of 80-100 sq.m. are arranged around an attractively landscaped, small lake. Just five are by the busy river and there may be some noise from the trains that run on the other side.
This is a most attractive and popular site set in a wooded valley alongside the River Prüm. The site has an excellent restaurant, pizzeria and takeaway and a beautiful heated swimming pool. 91 pitches are now fully serviced. There are 80 long-stay units grouped in a separate area at the western end of the site, with the touring area stretching out alongside the river. The 160 touring pitches are on grass, mostly separated by hedging and all with 16A electricity. Pitches vary in size (from 30-110 sq.m) and price, and there is shade from mature trees in most parts.
Camping Burgen is pleasantly situated between the road and the river on the flat, grassy bank of the Mosel between Koblenz and Cochem. The site has attractive views with most of the pitches on the river’s edge being occupied by permanent caravans and attendant boats, but there are 120 individual numbered grassy pitches for touring units, plus a meadow at one end, both with electricity (10/16A). With a railway and a road across the water, a road alongside the site and commercial boats, some noise may be expected. The site fills up for much of July and August but a few pitches are kept for short stay visitors.
Camping Erden is situated on the banks of the Moselle, not far from Erden and Bernkastel-Kues (Rhineland-Palatinate). This region is famous for the beautiful valleys of the Rhine and Moselle. Enjoy the river and the boats passing by, the beautiful historic towns, the imposing castles and of course the numerous vineyards, this campsite offers you the opportunity to fully enjoy beautiful views of the vineyards on the opposite side of the river. There are 68 touring pitches situation on a large camping field reached via a pathed path. Pitches are not separated by hedges but by numbers giving you the best views of the river and surroundings. If you are lucky enough the best pitches are right by the river. On-site, there are accessible sanitary facilities that have recently be refurbished, a children's play area, a Grocery shop with fresh bread delivered daily and a restaurant with a conservatory so you can take in the views. Here you can choose from a small choice of dishes. The river gives you an opportunity to swim, kayak and fish.
Ferieninsel Winningen is not an island but a peninsula on the Mosel River in the beautiful wine region of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. On-site, 200 touring pitches with 16Amp electric hook-up points are available. Pitches are not delimited, but there is an uncomplicated registration system, and you can choose where you would like to pitch your caravan, motorhome or tent. Please keep in mind that the campsite can get busy during the high season, and if you choose a pitch next to Mosel River, there is some noise from passing boats and jet skis.
Camping Bleialf is a peaceful and pretty site on the outskirts of the Eifel National Park is lined with shrubs and trees for plenty of shade. A 20-minute drive to Prüm town and a five-minute walk to Bleialf This is a fine place to use as a base for days spent wandering through German beech forests or at the lush Belgian Ardennes (40 minutes’ drive). Popular places to visit nearby include the marked trails at Black Man, one of the most famed destinations in the Eifel, a 10-minute drive away; alternatively, head off on hikes 20 minutes away in the Alfbach forest. If you’re after children -friendly cycling tours, reasonably flat bike paths run past disused railway lines and rivers in the local area as well. Young people will have lots on site as well –with an outdoor play area, table tennis and relaxation areas. It’s a five-minute walk to the centre of Bleialf for amenities including car and bike rental, supermarkets, butchers, bakeries and pastry shops. The site has 30 grass/gravel touring pitches. There are also a number of seasonal pitches.
Easily accessible from the B41 Bad Kreuznach-Idar Oberstein road, Camping Nahemühle is a countryside site backing onto the Nahe river, where a weir funnels water to the Nahemühle (water mill). With 300 pitches (150 for touring units, 16A electricity), the site is level and fairly open. It is divided roughly into sections, one for groups, another for touring units and tents and an area for permanent campers. The pitches to the rear of the site, away from the passing road and railway line, are to be preferred. This low weir together with the adjoining grass area is a favourite gathering place.
Owned by the city of Echternacherbrück, this is a well organised site which is set for a kilometre along the bank of the Sauer river. This is the picturesque border between Luxemburg and Germany in the South Eifel nature park and is an excellent starting point for excursions and hiking and biking. It is a very good and popular site, next to the well run municipal open-air heated pool complex (entry is free for campers, expect some daytime noise). The terrain is flat, with 130 seasonal pitches and 340 numbered touring pitches, all with access to 10/16A electricity (some Euro standard). In high season a full programme of activities includes bingo, tournaments (darts, table tennis, etc), aquarobics, ceramic painting and outings. This is a very lively site and would suit families with teenage children.
Camping Leukbachtal is located on the outskirts of the medieval town of Saarburg, in the heart of the Saar-Upper Moselle wine region. It is only 5-minutes’ walk to the shopping centre and 15 minutes to the city. Romantically located at the edge of the forest under trees on a 2.5 hectare site surrounded by nature. The small Leukbach flows through the site and the natural stream bed gives its unique character. There are 137 pitches – a mix of shaded and non-shaded all with power supply (16A). 105 are for touring units the rest are occupied on a seasonal basis. There is an outdoor and indoor pool 600 metres from the site. Cycle routes can also be found nearby.
About 35 km. south of Koblenz, between Rhine and Mosel, and an ideal base from which to visit these regions, this site is set on a south-facing slope that catches the sun all day. With trees and parkland all around, it is a peaceful and picturesque setting. There are 150 permanent caravans in a separate area from 90 short stay touring pitches on hardstanding. For longer stays, an area around the lake has a further 160 numbered pitches. These are of over 100 sq.m. on grass, some with hardstanding and all with 8A electricity. You can position yourself for shade or sun. The lake is used for inflatable boats and fishing. English is spoken by the helpful reception staff. Country Camping could be a useful transit stop en route to the Black Forest, Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland, as well as a family holiday. The owners have invested in the site by paving new roads, upgrading their facilities and the general appearance of the campsite.
Rhineland Palatinate
The Black Forest, or Schwarzwald, is famous the world over for its mountains, forests, thermal springs and spa resorts. Towards the French border romantic castles perch high on the steep slopes above the Rhine. These vine-clad hills together with the Moselle region are renowned for their quality white wines.
