Knaus Campingpark Viechtach
Camping-Park Viechtach, although reached via a small industrial area, is a relaxing place at which to stay, well laid out in a woodland setting on the edge of the village. The various trees and shrubs give a garden effect and there is good shade in most parts. A tarmac road winds its way between the grass pitches (most terraced) which are separated by rocks and trees and marked by plaques.
AZUR Camping Regensburg
AZUR Camping Regensburg is a campsite situated directly on the banks of the Danube River, only 3.5 kilometres outside Regensburg city centre. It is ideal for campers who want to explore the historic city while also enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. On-site, there are 141 touring pitches with electric hook-up points available. Pitches vary in size and are mainly on grass but some are gravel and are well shaded by tall trees.
Knaus Campingpark Nürnberg
Knaus Campingpark Nürnberg is an ideal site for visiting the fascinating and historically important city of Nürnberg (Nuremberg). The site is 500 meters from the Grundig Stadium and 600 meters from the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. There are 140 shaded pitches, 118 with 10A electrical connections and with water taps in groups. On mainly flat grass among the tall trees, some pitches are marked out with ranch-style boards, others still attractively ‘wild’, some others with hardstanding. There is sufficient space for them to be quite big, and many have the advantage of being drive-through. When there is an event at the Max-Morlock-Stadion, there can be a lot of noise, and road diversions are in place. It is well worth checking before planning an arrival.
Camping Paradies Franken
Camping Paradies Franken is an impeccably maintained campsite offers a serene escape for nature lovers seeking tranquillity. The friendly reception in a charming grey-blue building with a red slate roof provides local tourist information. Enjoy camping in a green oasis where peace reigns supreme. On-site, there are 137 touring pitches available with 16 Amp electric hook-up points. While the campsite boasts vast open lawns, shade is limited due to the low-growing shrubs. To preserve this natural beauty, groundsheets are discouraged. For those seeking comfort, two quaint cabins with arched awnings are available.
Campingplatz Weihersee
Weihersee Campsite offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Bavaria within the picturesque Steigerwald Nature Park. As its name implies, the campsite is situated on the shores of the serene Weihersee lake. Campingplatz Platzermühle

Camping Main Spessart Park
This is a large site, near the Main river to the west of Würzburg, the home of Franconian wine. With some 150 pitches for touring (out of 350) the site provides good facilities in a quiet and peaceful location. It is a good spot for walks and cycle rides around the local vineyards and along the banks of the Main. All pitches have electricity (6-10A) and 65 super pitches provide electricity, water, and drainage. The site is very busy in the high season and, as you would expect, provides a variety of entertainment for young and old. Helpful reception staff speak English.
Spessart-Camping Schönrain
Situated 4 km. west of the town of Gemünden, with views of forested hills bordering the Main river, this is a very friendly, well-organised, family-run site with excellent facilities. Frau Endres welcomes British guests and speaks a little English. There are 100 pitches, 70 of which are for touring. They vary in size (70-150 sq.m), and all have 10A electricity and 20 with water. Another area has been developed for tents.
Kur & Feriencamping Max 1
Kur-und Feriencamping Max 1 an especially luxurious site with plenty of wellness options. The spa-linked site is situated in a virtually silent area in the scenic area of Bavaria. This is a place people have been coming to from time immemorial to enjoy the thermal baths. Here you will find a beautiful site with a variety of pitches. The grounds feature lots of well-maintained hedges and trees. The pitches are nicely laid out allowing visitors to take full advantage of all the facilities. The site has an open nature swimming pool, a huge outdoor pool and a smaller covered swimming pool. You also have access to the sauna. Choose one of the wellness treatments or join in with an aqua fitness class. The site's restaurant has an extensive menu and impeccable service. You can also enjoy dining sitting out on the shaded terrace. There is a small shop by the reception. For more extensive shopping or more food and dining options, go to Bad Füssing (three kilometres up the road). The site has 220 pitches of which 176 grass/hardstanding ones are for touring units and have 16-amp hook-up point. There are also 12 apartments or rooms available to hire.
Camping Schnitzmühle
Adventure Camp Schnitzmühle is situated in the Bavarian Forest nestled in an idyllic location next the Black Rain River in a valley around three kilometres from the town of Vietach. The site is reached by driving over a bridge. The area is famed for its many attractions, including museums, glass art and geology. The pitches are separated from one another by trees and lie on the banks of the river itself. If you choose to bring your own canoe, you can opt for a special camping field with direct access to the water. The site has a number of accommodation options, such as Hacienda rooms and Lodge accommodation. The sandy beach by the lake has sunbeds for soaking up the rays, and you can relax while the children swim and play in the water. This is the perfect base for outdoor activities in the local area. In the summer, you can enjoy mountain biking, horse riding, survival and hiking. In the winter, there are horse and cart rides and hikes in the dark with torches and toboggans. The ski slopes are no more than 15 minutes' drive away. 3 recharging points for electric cars. The site has 121 pitches of which 80 are for touring units with 10-amp hook-up point. There are also 41 tents and rooms available for hire.
Camping Rangau
This pleasant site makes a convenient stopover and is quickly and easily reached from either the A3 Würzburg-Nürnberg or the A73 Bamberg-Nürnberg autobahns. It has 110 pitches on flat ground which are mainly for touring units. All are numbered and partly marked but mainly between 50-70 sq.m. so it can look very cramped when busy. There are also 60 permanent units. There is usually space available, but in peak season overnight visitors can often be put on the adjacent football pitch. A large lake, with access from the site through a gate, can be used for sailing or windsurfing and boats are available to hire. There is no fishing at present.
Camping Tauberromantik
Camping Tauberromantik is near Rothenburg in Detwang at the lovely Tauber-valley. Not much noise from the nearby road. Site is perfectly located to walk up into town (be aware. Its steep!), and for bike rides along the river. Gaststätte Unter den Linden is worth a visit - it’s by the river about 10 mins walk away and has a lovely big beer garden. There is a great little shop on site - prices are comparable to the convenience shops in town and you can order bread to pick up the next day. A small shop, bar, area to wash clothes etc, fridge/freezer, everything you would expect to find. You can walk from the site into the village, which is a medieval village surrounded by a wall, it is amazing, you must try Schneeballen (a local delicacy) and visit the Christmas shop! You can eat indoors at a Gasthaus which is typical German and not full of tourists, delicious. One further bonus is the fact that you will meet very few English people, which means you can go away and experience a real part of Germany. The site has 100 touring pitches and there are 6 bungalows and apartments available to hire.
Camping Katzenkopf
Katzenkopf is quietly and attractively located in a nature protected area on the banks of the River Main and only a short walk from the small, well known wine village of Sommerach. This is an excellent family run site with 142 touring pitches and a quick-stop area near the site entrance. The level, grass pitches are shaded, all have 16A electricity and 29 are fully serviced; there is no extra charge for those directly bordering the river. Two protected areas of water are suitable for swimming and boating, and a sandy bay is popular for sand castle building or lazing around in what is claimed to be Germany’s driest region.
SeeCamp Dinkelsbühl
Run by the German Camping Club (DCC), this is a modern site, very close to one of Germany’s best known medieval towns, from which visits can be made to other places on the Romantic Road. There are 460 pitches (half of which are for touring and most with a gentle slope) on broad grassy terraces overlooking a small lake, with a separate area for tents by the water. All are numbered and of about 80 sq.m. with 10A electricity. A special area is kept for overnight stays. The lake can be used for bathing or your own non-powered boat.
Knaus Campingpark Frickenhausen
Knaus Campingpark Frickenhausen is a pleasant riverside site with good facilities just south of Würzburg, situated towards the northern end of the Romantische Strasse and not far from the A3 Frankfurt to Nürnberg. There are 77 fair-sized, numbered touring pitches on generally flat grass, arranged in sections leading from tarmac access roads with flowers around. Most have 16A electricity connections. About 80 long-stay places are mostly separate nearer the river. All the amenities are in a long block opposite reception. Upstairs is a little shop and a restaurant with a terrace for candlelit meals.
Campingplatz Drei Gleichen
Camping Drei Gleichen is in the hills of Thuringia, you choose your own pitch on this well-kept site. Sit down by a crackling campfire with a bratwurst in a bun. The swimming pool in Gotha is ideal if you need to cool off. A hike in the mountains could take you to Gleichen Castle. From this castle there is a magnificent view. The electricity generated at the site is completely sustainable. Camping Drei Gleichen is a child-friendly site, but you don't have to be afraid of exuberant animation teams. Luckily, there are plenty of great playgrounds for children on the grounds. Enjoy the sunset together by the crackling campfire. This is quite possible in front of the stone fire basket. The site has 187 pitches of which 150 grass ones are for touring units and have 16-amp hook-up point. There are also 7 cabins available to hire.
Frankenalb Camping
Frankenalb Camping is near Etzelwang, Bavaria. The site is hilly and has a beautiful stock of trees and shrubs. It is crossed by a stream and has direct access to a heated outdoor pool and toddler pool. The Five Rivers Cycle Route passes right by the site. Ski lift and cross-country ski trail nearby. Separate area for larger groups with campfire. The Pendolino train station can be reached on foot in about 5 minutes. By train, for example, you can reach Nuremberg in 30 minutes. Hiking opportunities on well-marked hiking trails through beautiful mixed forests and past lush meadows to nearby castles and palaces such as Neidstein Castle, which was formerly owned by Oscar winner Nicolas Cage. Climbing, horseback riding, surfing, kayaking and much more in the vicinity. The site has 140 pitches of which 40 grass ones are for touring units and have 16-amp hook-up point.
