AZUR Camping Regensburg is a campsite situated directly on the banks of the Danube River, only 3.5 kilometres outside Regensburg city centre. It is ideal for campers who want to explore the historic city while also enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. On-site, there are 141 touring pitches with electric hook-up points available. Pitches vary in size and are mainly on grass but some are gravel and are well shaded by tall trees.
Weihersee Campsite offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Bavaria within the picturesque Steigerwald Nature Park. As its name implies, the campsite is situated on the shores of the serene Weihersee lake. Its convenient location within the extensive network of hiking and cycling trails makes it an ideal base for exploring the region. The campsite features a terraced layout with 138 spacious touring pitches with 16Amp electric hook-up points available. Gravel paths separate pitches, and a variety of trees and bushes provide a sense of privacy. For those seeking a unique experience, the campsite offers special rental accommodations known as wine barrels.
Knaus Campingpark Nürnberg is an ideal site for visiting the fascinating and historically important city of Nürnberg (Nuremberg). The site is 500 meters from the Grundig Stadium and 600 meters from the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. There are 140 shaded pitches, 118 with 10A electrical connections and with water taps in groups. On mainly flat grass among the tall trees, some pitches are marked out with ranch-style boards, others still attractively ‘wild’, some others with hardstanding. There is sufficient space for them to be quite big, and many have the advantage of being drive-through. When there is an event at the Max-Morlock-Stadion, there can be a lot of noise, and road diversions are in place. It is well worth checking before planning an arrival.
Bad Kissingen is a very attractive town and was a favourite of Bavarian Kings, Austrian Emperors and Bismark, who lived here for a while. This quiet site by the lakeside on the edge of town has direct access to the centre through the private entrance to the adjacent park. A grassy, partially shaded site with a tarmac service road, there are only 99 pitches (80 with 6A electricity, 40 with water and waste water connections), all well spaced out. Of these 20 are used by permanent units, so reservation is advisable.
This is a large site, near the Main river to the west of Würzburg, the home of Franconian wine. With some 150 pitches for touring (out of 350) the site provides good facilities in a quiet and peaceful location. It is a good spot for walks and cycle rides around the local vineyards and along the banks of the Main. All pitches have electricity (6-10A) and 65 super pitches provide electricity, water, and drainage. The site is very busy in the high season and, as you would expect, provides a variety of entertainment for young and old. Helpful reception staff speak English.
Campingplatz Schiefer Turm is ideally situated for travellers between the North and South of Germany between the A3 and A7. The site is on the banks of the river Main and has a restaurant and bar. The pitches are not hedged around but are flat and generous in size. There is a lovely looking lido on an island in the river and swimming pool very nearby. The toilet facilities are clean and comfortable, they charge for use of the showers. The site is close to Edeka and Lidl supermarkets and a petrol station making it ideal as a stopping off point. Kitzingen is a pretty little town with several restaurants and bars. The site is 20 minutes’ drive from the beautiful city of Wurzburg with its many historical buildings and a stopping off point on the famous Romantic Road. The site has 100 grass/hardstanding pitches of which 56 are seasonal. Electric hook-up points are 16amp.
Frankenalb Camping is near Etzelwang, Bavaria. The site is hilly and has a beautiful stock of trees and shrubs. It is crossed by a stream and has direct access to a heated outdoor pool and toddler pool. The Five Rivers Cycle Route passes right by the site. Ski lift and cross-country ski trail nearby. Separate area for larger groups with campfire. The Pendolino train station can be reached on foot in about 5 minutes. By train, for example, you can reach Nuremberg in 30 minutes. Hiking opportunities on well-marked hiking trails through beautiful mixed forests and past lush meadows to nearby castles and palaces such as Neidstein Castle, which was formerly owned by Oscar winner Nicolas Cage. Climbing, horseback riding, surfing, kayaking and much more in the vicinity. The site has 140 pitches of which 40 grass ones are for touring units and have 16-amp hook-up point.
Camping Im Grünen is in the landscape conservation area of the Middle Ilm Valley. Located directly on the Thuringian Three Towers Hiking Trail and the Ilm Valley Cycle Path. The site is between forest and field and is sometimes so quiet that you can hear the rustling of the trees and the birdsong! Surrounded by beautiful unspoilt landscape with mountains and fields, it invites nature lovers to go hiking and cycling. Not far from the cultural city of Weimar, the state capital Erfurt and the university city of Jena, the site is also an ideal starting point for city trips. Former concentration camp Buchenwald makes a big impression. Many guests use it for a sporty holiday especially mountain bikers. Great as a transit site to Poland/North Czech Republic. The site has 76 pitches of which 35 grass ones are for touring units and have 16-amp hook-up point. There are also 6 caravans available to hire.
Knaus Campingpark Frickenhausen is a pleasant riverside site with good facilities just south of Würzburg, situated towards the northern end of the Romantische Strasse and not far from the A3 Frankfurt to Nürnberg. There are 77 fair-sized, numbered touring pitches on generally flat grass, arranged in sections leading from tarmac access roads with flowers around. Most have 16A electricity connections. About 80 long-stay places are mostly separate nearer the river. All the amenities are in a long block opposite reception. Upstairs is a little shop and a restaurant with a terrace for candlelit meals.
Situated 4 km. west of the town of Gemünden, with views of forested hills bordering the Main river, this is a very friendly, well-organised, family-run site with excellent facilities. Frau Endres welcomes British guests and speaks a little English. There are 100 pitches, 70 of which are for touring. They vary in size (70-150 sq.m), and all have 10A electricity and 20 with water. Another area has been developed for tents.
In the heart of the Franconian wine region and just five kilometres from the A7/E455, Estenfeld has been family owned and managed since it opened in 1953. It is only seven kilometres to the university city of Würzburg, which has a wealth of attractions. The site’s 50 grass pitches are all for tourers and have electricity hook-ups (16A, 40 Europlugs). There are eight special pitches for motorhomes and groups are accommodated in a separate area. A bike would be a real asset here as there are miles of scenic cycling routes through the vineyards and villages.
Camping Am Waldbad is situated in the Waldbad in Breitenbach. The site has 80 pitches 60 of which are available for touring units with 16amp hook-up point. It also has comfortable bungalows available to hire. Forest, sun and mountain air, hikes in the surrounding area both in summer and in winter ensure ideal holiday and recreation conditions.
Run by the German Camping Club (DCC), this is a modern site, very close to one of Germany’s best known medieval towns, from which visits can be made to other places on the Romantic Road. There are 460 pitches (half of which are for touring and most with a gentle slope) on broad grassy terraces overlooking a small lake, with a separate area for tents by the water. All are numbered and of about 80 sq.m. with 10A electricity. A special area is kept for overnight stays. The lake can be used for bathing or your own non-powered boat.
This pleasant campsite is located on the banks of the river Regnitz in the Bavarian region of Germany. The pitches are spacious and delimited with a good range of shade provided by the beautiful old trees growing around the campsite. There is a good quality restaurant on site providing Franconia specialties and a pleasant beer garden where you can enjoy a local Bamberg Beer. There are various cycle routes on site with bikes available to hire and you can swim nearby in the river. Children have a large playground on site and there is a table tennis table for use.

The site has an open nature swimming pool, a huge outdoor pool and a smaller covered swimming pool. You also have access to the sauna. Choose one of the wellness treatments or join in with an aqua fitness class. The site's restaurant has an extensive menu and impeccable service. You can also enjoy dining sitting out on the shaded terrace. There is a small shop by the reception.
