The campsite was initially opened in 1949, and since 1984, it has been run by the Richter family. It is located directly next to the romantic River Rhine. The colourful seven-acre touring site offers level pitches on grass with shade from trees, and the arrangement is open plan. All pitches have 10A electricity and 40, normally allocated to motorhomes, and also have hardstanding, water and drainage. This is a major tourist area, and the site may become quite busy, although usually quiet and peaceful.
NAUS Campingpark Hünfeld is located in the region of Praforst, 4 km from the centre of Hünfeld. For those who love golf, the campsite is ideally located next to 2 golf courses ( 9 holes and 18 holes). This gives you the impression that the site is in a quiet location as open fields surrounding it. The campsite offers a bread service in the mornings, popular with campers, and if you don't want to cook, there is a restaurant on site with an outdoor terrace so you can watch the world go by whilst enjoying a cold drink and trying some local cuisine.
This site is an easy, eight minute stroll from the health resort at Naumburg, renowned for its timber-framed houses and attractive old centre. The guiding principles here are those of Sebastian Kneipp, one of the early advocates of what is now most often referred to as wellness. On site you will find several high quality water therapy facilities. The 230 pitches are attractively arranged in small groups and on terraces, all with electricity, water and drainage. Some mobile homes to rent are located at the back of the site, which also is the home of goats, sheep, rabbits and a donkey.
Camping Trendelburg is located on the Mühlenanger, an island in the Diemel, surrounded by the Mühlengraben and the Diemel, idyllically situated at the foot of the Trendelburg. The site has 120 touring pitches, half occupied by seasonal units. There is a large tent meadow away from the other guests, ideal for groups, where campfires are allowed. There are also four apartments available to hire. The main pitches are located to the west of the campsite. The on-site facilities are centrally located where you will find the reception building, the campsite restaurant and the small shop. A table tennis table is available for a game or two, and rackets can be borrowed from reception.
Pleasantly situated directly on the bank of the River Lahn between the autobahn and the town of Limburg, the site is a useful overnight stop for travellers along the Köln-Frankfurt stretch of the A3. The site is on level grass with 200 touring pitches, each about 50-60 sq.m. All have 6A electricity, but may need long cables, some of which may have to cross a road. A few of the larger trees have been removed, giving a pleasing mix of open and shaded pitches. The site is very popular with many nationalities and can become very crowded at peak times, so arrive early. There is some road and rail noise day and night.
Camping Kellerwald lies in the wooded and mountainous Hesse region of Germany, surrounded by beautiful countryside and and plenty of trails for easy going walking and cycling. Hike the Kellerwaldsteig, a scenic route that takes you right through the forest, leading up to the Kellerwaldturm, an observation tower offering amazing panoramic views. The campsite is on the fringe of Jesberg village, a peaceful little place which offers basic amenities and shops.
This is an attractive countryside site just north of the town. It is bisected by a tributary of the river Neckar, the Ulfenbach, which makes a popular and safe place for children to play. Besides the 180 seasonal pitches, there are 200 marked and numbered level touring pitches, most with electricity (6/16A). About 40 have cable TV connections. There is a separate area for tents. The heated outdoor pool is popular, and a picnic area and sauna are nearby. Dogs are allowed on the site, but an area containing about 50 pitches is reserved for visitors without dogs.
Camping Ahletal-Reinhardshagen is a small, terraced, family site between the Weser and the Reinhardswald. The site is located on a southern slope in the valley of the "Nasse Ahle". Since its opening in 1974, the site has offered the opportunity for recreation and leisure activities on about 120 pitches. In addition to a large number of permanent pitches, the site also has 30 grass/hardstanding touring pitches for visitors who want a one-night stay or longer, almost all pitches have electric hook-up point 16 amp. There are 10 hardstanding pitches available for motorhomes.
Kirchheim is just 5 km. from the A7 (50 km. south of Kassel) and also close to the Frankfurt to Dresden autobahns A5-A4 in eastern Hesse, which has the largest forested area in Germany. Pleasantly situated on the side of a valley, this is a large terraced site with some 300 level touring pitches, 50 of which are set in cul-de-sacs, and the remainder in an open area at the top of the site with views to the forest. They vary in size from 80 to 110 sq.m. but all have 16A electricity and just under half also have water and drainage.
Close to Bad Zwesten, a pleasant little spa town in wooded countryside in the heart of Germany, Waldcamping is bordered by a river, fields and woods. Of the 124 pitches, 60 are available for touring units (100 sq.m), with 10A electricity connections provided; the remainder are occupied by permanent units, including a number of basic wooden huts for hire by hikers and cyclists. The nearby town has a few shops, a café and a couple of restaurants, whilst an easy drive away is the city of Kassel whose many palaces and parks include the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Camping Park Hammelbach is a terraced site which lies right at the heart of the Odenwald in a very quiet location at the edge of Hammelbach. The site is situated in an area ideal for hiking and is surrounded by forests and valleys that allow a marvellous distant view. Well-marked footpaths take you right from the site through a hiking paradise where new views await you. Or you may explore the area on diverse paths by cycle. Mountain bikers will find routes of all degrees of difficulty. All the 135 grass/hardstanding pitches have electric hook-up 16amp, water and wastewater drain. Thirty-five are for touring units and some are reserved for those with mobility issues. Nearby are bowling alleys, sports shooting, tennis courts, restaurants shops and an events calendar. Finally, after an eventful day, relax in the spacious wellness oasis with sauna, steam bath, solarium and massage.
Situated near the eastern end of the 27 km. long Edersee and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, this attractively set site is surrounded by wooded hills and encircles a six-hectare lake, which has separate areas for swimming, fishing and boating. Of the 500 pitches, 250 are for touring; all have 10A electricity, and 50 have fresh and waste water connections. The pitches are on level grass, some having an area of hardstanding, and are separated by hedges and mature trees. At the opposite side of the lake from the entrance, there is a separate area for tents with its own sanitary block. The adjoining national park, a popular leisure attraction, offers a wealth of holiday/sporting activities including walking, cycling (there are two passenger ferries that take cycles), boat trips, cable car and much more. Full details are available at the friendly reception. For winter sports lovers, the ski centre at Winterberg is only 30 km. away from this all-year-round site.
Camping Fuldaschleife is in Guxhagen, Hesse, located in a wood and alongside the river Fulda. The site has pitches with some shade. You will have access to various cycle routes and swimming is possible in the river, you can also try wild water sailing/kayaking/rafting. A dense network of important cycling and hiking trails invite you to take varied trekking tours on the R1 long-distance cycle path. The site facilities have recently been renovated to a high standard. The site has an ingenious digital pitch booking and washing machine operation system. Recommended for a stopover or even longer stay as there are many leisure activities possible in the area. Easy access from the A7. In the village (within walking distance) you will find nice beer garden. The site has 118 pitches of which 75 are for touring units with 16-amp hook-up point and there are 3 caravans or hikers cabins available for hire.
On a steep hillside in the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park and approached by a scenic drive along a narrow system of roads through the vineyards, this site is arranged on small terraces on the side of a wooded hill with a stream flowing through – the water supply is direct from springs. The surroundings are most attractive with views over the vineyards to the river below. Of the 60 pitches, 35 are available for touring units. These are mostly on the lower terraces, in groups of up to four units. All have electricity (16A Europlugs) and five are fully serviced. Cars are parked away from the pitches near the entrance.
Nibelungen-Camping Am Schwimmbad is located between three rivers, the Rhine, the Main and the Neckar, near Fürth and the Nibelungensteig, a well-known hiking trail. The area has a lot to offer for hikers and cyclists. The region is not very touristy but has a lot to offer for active people who also like peace and quiet. The site is clearly signposted, and the approach route runs on easily accessible roads. The reception is reached via a staircase on the first floor and here is also a nice recreation room. The pitches are in various areas and are spacious, set in pairs or threes with bushes. Some are paved so are suitable for motorhomes or camper vans. In addition to swimming, hiking and cycling in the area, you can also try out the summer toboggan run, go mountain biking or climbing. The salt cave is a nice destination for a trip. N.B dogs are not allowed. The site has 145 pitches of which 55 are for touring units with 16-amp hook-up point.
Geisenheim is in a lovely position on the north bank of the Rhine and within walking distance of the picturesque small town of Rüdesheim. There are 100 slightly sloping touring pitches each with 16A electricity, plus some attractive seasonal pitches. The touring pitches are on the part of the site nearest the river and are on well maintained grass. Some have shade and some are marked out by hedges. There are four special hardstandings for long, heavy motorhomes, but these must be booked in advance. A level pedestrian/cycle path runs alongside the river in both directions and there are many small picturesque villages in the area to visit.
Hessen
The Black Forest, or Schwarzwald, is famous the world over for its mountains, forests, thermal springs and spa resorts. Towards the French border romantic castles perch high on the steep slopes above the Rhine. These vine-clad hills together with the Moselle region are renowned for their quality white wines.
