Camping la Samaritaine
This delightful site, a member of the Flower group, is situated in the heart of the Ardennes between Reims and Luxembourg. It is peacefully located just outside the village beside a stream, and the rolling countryside is delightful, perfect for family bike rides and exploring on foot. A feature is a large lake, popular with anglers but with a designated beach area for swimming. Not far from the lake is a playground and a boules pitch, while some play equipment (adult supervision only) is at the lake. Lake swimming is supervised only at certain times (2 m. deep, with a paddling area up to 1.2 m).
Camping Départemental Haulmé
This is a large site with 400 pitches arranged on 15 hectares of woodland with an open grass area in the centre. There is direct access from the site to the Semoy river and its banks, and to the woodland surrounding the campsite. The grass pitches are numbered but not separated and are suitable for large units. Many of the pitches have shade from large trees. This site is one of three Campings Départementale in this region, all with plenty of water-based activities. A large recreation area just outside the site is mostly used by French families.
Domaine de la Motte
Domaine de la Motte is located between fields and forest, and is ideally situated for visiting Belgium and Luxembourg. The Ardennes region will charm you with its beautiful shady forests, lakes and rivers, and lovers of architecture can see many fine examples of fortified churches and public buildings. This ten-hectare family-oriented site has 87 level grassy touring pitches enclosed by hedges; all have 10A electricity and water, but only a few have shade. There are gîtes, chalets and mobile homes for hire. Just a few hundred metres from the site, there is a lake with a beach, and a separate fishing lake.
Camping Lac de Bairon
This modern lakeside site is located in the heart of the French Ardennes, an area with relatively few good quality sites. Terraced on three levels, it has 300 pitches which are generally arranged in bays for about six units, with waste bins and water taps by each area. All pitches have electricity (6/10A), and around 83 have gravel hardstanding. The terracing gives a real feeling of spaciousness and a line of tall trees running the length of the site supplies some shade. The lake beach and supervised swimming area are an 800 m. drive or rather less by a footpath from the campsite.
Camping du Lac des Vieilles-Forges
This attractive lakeside site is a short way from the N43 in the Ardennes region. It has a large range of facilities and activities. The vast majority of the 280 large pitches are well shaded by trees. On individual gravel hardstandings (55 suitable for tents), arranged on several terraces, they are easily accessed via tarmac approach roads and 200 have electricity (6/10A). The site is set only 100 m. or so back from the large lake, which offers a variety of watersports, and its somewhat remote location is approached by a road which forms part of the Route des Fortifications.
Camping la Murée
Camping La Muree is located in the Ardennes Natural Park, near the Meuse valley, Lake Vieilles-Forges and the fortifications of Rocroi. The site covers one and a half hectares and has 23 touring pitches suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Four beautiful fishing or walking ponds are accessible on site. In the afternoon or evening you can enjoy a drink on the south-facing terrace, enjoy a good ice cream. In the evening you can eat with the meal trays to consume on the terrace or to take away (from 18:00 in high season). In the morning, Erick will visit the site with his 2CV to deliver fresh baguettes. Please do not confuse this site with one of the same name in Switzerland.
Camping Municipal les Bateaux
This traditional French Municipal Site is located on the edge of Revin and is primarily an ideal stopover site just 180 miles from Calais. This pleasant municipal site is situated along the bank of the Meuse River and within walking distance of the town of Revin.
Camping Municipal du Mont Olympe
This campsite is situated within a peaceful parkland setting right next to the river Meuse with local amenities only a ten-minute walk away in A Charleville-Mézières. With walks and cycle paths that run along the campsite, bicycle hire is available on site so you can explore the local area. You can also hire kayaks and pedalos if you want to explore the area via the river.

The Ardennes

A rugged region of extensive forests, ridges and hills, the Ardennes stretches from Belgium and Luxembourg into France. Famous for its green landscape and varied flora and fauna, the area’s towns and monuments are often missed by tourists eager to encounter the wild outdoors. It is in some of these more urban spaces, however, that the most interesting attractions lie.

The Ardennes’ most important town is Charleville-Mézières, originally two separate communities located on the banks of the River Meuse, which merged in 1966. Over half of it was destroyed in the Great War and impressively reconstructed in the following decades. One of the highlights is the Place Ducale, surrounded by arcades that support 17th-century townhouses. To the southeast is Sedan, a town dominated by its imposing 15th-century castle, which extends over seven acres and houses a museum and a hotel. The Regional Natural Park is, of course, well worth a visit thanks to its stunning scenery and tranquil environment.

The best way to cycle around the Ardennes is using the ‘voies vertes’ – disused railways that were turned into cycling tracks. Walkers can ramble over the many paths and take time to explore the towns at leisure.
