Gemeinde Camping Erlach is a lakeside site within walking distance of the small town of Erlach, west of Bern. There's a small beach backed by a grassy expanse offering wonderful views across the lake to the wooded hills opposite. With only 69 touring pitches of small to medium size, it can fill up quickly during the high season, especially at weekends. Many pitches have lovely views over the Bielersee, and the marina, with numerous lake cruise options, is only a few minutes walk away.
Camping Grassi
This is a small site with about half the pitches occupied by static caravans, used by their owners for weekends and holidays. The 70 or so places available for touring units are not marked out but are generous in size without overcrowding. Ten pitches have been upgraded to full comfort and weather-resistant surfaces added to others. Most places are on level grass with two small terraces at the end of the site. There is little shade but the site is set in a river valley with trees on the hills which enclose the area. Electricity is available for all pitches but long leads may be required in parts.
Bergcamping Heiti
Bergcamping Heiti is a fairly new site located 10 km. from the stylish resort of Gstaad. The site has been recommended by our Swiss agent and we plan to undertake a full inspection. Bergcamping Heiti is open all year and has 50 grassy pitches suitable for summer and winter use. There is also a number of traditional wooden chalets available to rent. The wash block is fully heated and has a drying room for skiers and walkers. The site is situated at the foot of the Col du Pillon and a wide choice of walking and mountain biking routes are available. The nearby village of Gsteig is five minutes by foot and has a good selection of shops and restaurants.

On the outskirts of the village of Krattigen, Camping Stuhlegg is a quiet and attractive site, located well above Lake Thun and with beautiful, wide-ranging views over the lake to the mountains beyond. The 65 touring pitches, all with 10/13A electricity, are arranged on grassy terraced areas with some hardstanding for motorhomes. A central grass area serves as an overflow. A dormitory chalet has been added recently for light travelers. A few young trees provide shade. The friendly bar and bistro is also popular as a meeting point for the villagers, which adds a touch of local colour. This is a site where you can relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air and scenery. The site owners speak excellent English.

This good but expensive site (£42 in low season per night) is divided into separate sections for caravans, motorhomes and tents; the first two have hardstandings which, in effect, provide rather formal and small individual pitches with shade in parts. There are 150 marked touring pitches all with 16A electricity connections. The touring pitches are divided into three sections; one with large service facilities, an open grass area and another among the pine trees with little grass. This site is run in an environmentally sensitive manner and is located in a protected nature area, a habitat for beavers, wild boar and foxes.
Camping Vermeille
This small campsite is about 1,000 m. above sea level, on a road followed by many tourists and can serve either as a night stop or as a holiday base for those who like a mountain site with many attractive excursion opportunities. In summer, there are 30 pitches for touring units (limited shade), in winter 20 (the remainder of the 120 total being seasonal lets), all with 10A electricity connections. The site is equipped for winter sports camping and therefore a fair proportion of the available space consists of hardstandings for caravans on stony ground. However, there are also lawns for tents.
Camping Eienwäldli
Idyllically situated near the beautiful village of Engelberg, surrounded by mountains, 3,500 feet above sea level, this all-year site must be one of the very best in Switzerland. There are hard access roads but cars must be parked away from the pitches. Recent additions are eight premium pitches overlooking the lake and popular pods for light travellers. Although there are some trees, there is little shade in the main camping area. There is direct access to the lake for swimming and boating.
