Ma Prairie is an excellent site and its place in this guide goes back over 30 years to when it was simply a field surrounded by vineyards. The trees planted then have now matured and are home to some mischievous red squirrels. More trees continue to be planted, along with colourful shrubs providing a comfortable, park-like setting with 208 touring pitches, 197 with 10A electricity and 15 with water and drainage. There are also 50 mobile homes available to rent and ten privately owned. It is a peaceful haven some 3 km. back from the sea but within walking distance of Canet village itself. The Gil family still provide a warm welcome and there is a wine tasting corner in reception.
The restaurant and bar is across the road and overlooks a modern, attractive pool complex and wonderful old palm tree. Here you will also find the sports complex and gym. Some mobile homes and modern housing has crept up but there are still vineyards close by and the wine sold in reception is from the family vineyard.
Facilities
Fully equipped toilet blocks with accessible facilities, baby bath. Washing machines and dryers. No shop but baker calls every morning June-Sept. Covered snack bar and takeaway. Air-conditioned bar and restaurant. Large heated swimming pool, separate water chute and splendid children’s pool (15/5-15/9). Multisports court. Gym. TV. Amusement machines. Busy daily activity and entertainment programme in season for children aged 6-12. WiFi over site (charged). Charcoal barbecues are not permitted. Several small communal barbecue areas. Tourist train stops at site (April-June and Sept).
Location
Leave autoroute A9 at Perpignan North towards Barcarès. Exit the D11 Perpignan road (exit 5). Turn left at junction in direction of St Nazaire. Go under bridge, take first turning right at roundabout then left off small roundabout. Site on left (signed).
