Luxembourg
Belgian Luxembourg is a land of forests, rivers and deep valleys criss-crossed by a network of marked footpaths and cycling routes, a land of medieval castles and ancient hamlets.
The region of the rivers Ours and Aisne in the north is made up of many small villages, the little medieval town of Durbuy and a very interesting cave. Dominated by the ruins of a medieval castle, La Roche-en-Ardenne is an important tourist resort nestling in a meander of the River Ourthe and surrounded by forests.
Houffalize, higher up in the Ourthe Valley, is an attractive town famous for its colourful floral decorations and known worldwide as the Belgian mountain bike capital. The Land of Bastogne has several small towns and was the site of the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.
Bouillon is not only the historical site from where the First Crusade departed to Jerusalem but also the starting point for those wishing to explore the magnificent valley by canoe, for instance. The Land of the Anlier Forest is one of the largest and most beautiful forests of the Ardennes. A significant number of villages and hamlets remain, a testament to the area’s agricultural history. The Land of the Val de Salm is a treasure trove of architectural and natural sites, signposted walks and mountain bike trails with an abundance of bilberries and raspberries and a wealth of nature reserves and game parks.
