Within easy reach of an extensive beach, Orbitur Camping Vagueira is a large site shaded under tall pine trees behind the dunes. Pitches are on sandy soil with sparse grass, and the central area is fairly level. Elsewhere pitches are on sloping ground between the trees. Electrical connections (6A) are available throughout, although long leads may be needed.

The campsite lies in a pine forest 500 m from the Ria de Costa Nova, a delightful little village with traditional brightly painted houses and a colourful fish market. It's 1 km from Vagueira, 8 km from Vagos and 16 km from Aveiro and Ílhavo, with the nearest beaches being those of Vagueira and Areão, 1.5 km away and popular with surfers. Be sure to visit Vagos and its Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Vagos, the beautiful chapels of Senhora da Misericórdia, Santo António and the Torre Militar. The area’s excellent gastronomy is another highlight.

This is a good family site if you do not need a pool and have transport to reach the beach. The seaside town here is fairly characterless, but the beach is excellent and there are the necessary shops, bars and restaurants. Beyond is the attractive town of Aveiro, known as Portugal’s Venice. Reception will provide excellent information about these and many other possible destinations for days out, including plans of how to get to Aveiro and where to park.

Seven modern sanitary buildings, clean but fairly basic, mainly British-style WCs, open washbasins (some with warm water) and free showers. Accessible Facilities. Washing machines and dryer. Shop, bar/snacks and restaurant (March-Sept). Basic supplies from reception at other times. Outdoor disco (high season). Games room. Playground. Tennis (charged). Satellite TV. WiFi throughout (free). Torches useful.

Directions to Orbitur Camping Vagueira

Site is 80 km. south of Porto. From A1 motorway, take A25 west to Aveiro. At roundabout at end of motorway turn south on EM592 through Costa Nova along river bank to Praia da Vagueira. Turn left across river and site is on left in 1 km.
