Alan Rogers Review
The Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Crystal Palace in south London provides easy access to the city centre and its many attractions. The pitches are pleasantly arranged in terraces adjacent to the ruins of the old Crystal Palace, its park and the National Sports Centre and are allocated by the site warden. It is surprisingly quiet given its location (except for police sirens and over-flying aircraft). As well as London itself, the campsite is ideally situated for annual events such as the Ideal Home Exhibition, the London to Brighton mini run, the London Marathon, the Chelsea Flower show, Wimbledon and of course Christmas and New Year events. Advance booking is advisable all year round. There are 89 pitches all with 16A electricity, including 18 for tents. 60 pitches are on gravel hardstandings, useful for stays out of season.
The Crystal Palace park is extensive and provides open spaces for strolls, picnics, and plenty of activities for children. The Sports Centre has two swimming pools, tennis and squash courts and gym facilities, with national events in various sports at certain times. There are two pitches at the site entrance for arrivals after 20.00. The site is ideally placed for visitors who are keen to visit London and all its attractions. The number 3 bus near the site departs regularly, goes into London via Brixton, Lambeth Bridge, and Trafalgar Square, and terminates on Oxford Street. The bus operates all through the night, so late-night theatre-goers need not worry about returning to the site.
