Alan Rogers Review of Camping le Vaurette
You are assured of a warm welcome at this immaculate site, beautifully situated beside the shallow River Dordogne and just a few kilometres from Argentat. There are 120 large, gently sloping grass pitches, 118 for touring. Separated by a large variety of beautiful trees and shrubs offering varying amounts of shade, all have 6A electricity, and many have good views over the River Dordogne as the pitches nearest the river are slightly terraced.
The owners run an active campsite for all the family while maintaining tranquillity (no radios). Excellent English and Dutch are spoken. The ancient barn at the far end of the site houses the bar and a large TV room (large screen), and the terrace overlooks the good-sized and attractive heated swimming and paddling pools.
There are just two mobile homes for hire as the owner wishes to keep the feeling of a campsite. Sports facilities are very good with a resurfaced tennis court and external exercise machines. The children’s play areas are also good. The site makes an ideal base for watersports in the Dordogne river (Canoe hire 300 m) and for visiting the beautiful villages along its route. Fishing is possible from the banks of the site and in nearby lakes. The old village of Beaulieu (13 km) has a good range of shops.
Facilities at Camping le Vaurette
Two very clean traditional toilet blocks offer all the expected facilities, including accessible facilities. Further facilities are near the bar and heated outdoor pool. Motorhome services. Shop. Two bars with terrace and takeaway. Football. Gym. Badminton. Boules. Tennis. Fishing. River bathing. Accompanied canoe trips, walks and mountain bike rides. Organised activities for all the family (July/Aug) but no late-night discos. WiFi (charged).
