The Alan Rogers / Caravan and Motorhome Club Awards - Results 2024
Presented at the NEC, Birmingham in February 2025
Building on the success of our previous awards ceremony, we hosted the 2024 Awards at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham, aligning with the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show 2025.
Our awards cover a wide range of categories, and selecting the winners is no easy task. We carefully evaluate campsites featured in the Alan Rogers guides and the Caravan and Motorhome Club's 'European Touring' program, considering insights from our site assessors, head office team, and, most importantly, our members and readers.
Choosing the final winners is always a challenge, but we are confident that this year's selections represent truly outstanding campsites.
For each category, we have chosen an overall winner as well as a highly commended runner-up. Below, you’ll find the full details of our 2024 award categories and their recipients
This Group has been recognised with the Alan Rogers Overall Award for its exceptional commitment to innovation, guest experience, and specialised facilities across its five sites in southern Germany. The group's extensive rebranding and improvement program has transformed its campsites into outstanding destinations, with enhancements in infrastructure and eco-friendly amenities.
The sites excel at catering to diverse guest needs. Its dog-friendly facilities make travelling with pets effortless, and its family-oriented spaces boast adventure playgrounds, sports areas, and expansive play spaces. Their dedication to progress and excellence makes it a worthy recipient of the Overall Alan Rogers Award.
Camping Grubhof is a beautifully laid out, level and spacious site set in the former riding and hunting park of the 14th-century Schloss Grubhof. The 250 touring pitches have been carefully divided into separate areas for different types of visitors – dog owners, young people, families and groups, and a quiet area. All the generous XXL pitches (at least 180 sq.m) provide electricity (16A), water and drainage (also in winter), many along the bank of the Saalach River.
This award reflects the hard work and commitment undertaken by particular site owners to improve and upgrade their site. Candidates for this award included existing sites which have undergone a far-reaching improvement programme, or campsites which have passed into new ownership and benefited from substantial investment in terms of time and money.
This is a first-rate, family-run park in the small country village of Redcross, in the heart of County Wicklow. It is within easy reach of beauty spots such as the Vale of Avoca (Ballykissangel), Glendalough and Powerscourt, plus Brittas Bay, a 3.5-mile stretch of beautiful white dunes and clean beaches. The 211 touring pitches (many fully serviced) are divided into separate, well-landscaped areas with a separate adults-only section. All have 6/10 amp electricity connections and offer a choice of hardstanding or grass. A further 26 pitches are given over to seasonal tourers.
Huttopia, established in 1999, has positioned itself as a premier provider of camping experiences. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, the company is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and top-quality products.
This commitment has propelled Huttopia to become a leading name in the camping industry, reflecting its success and influence since its inception.
This award will take account of campsites offering a particularly friendly welcome throughout the season. Those creating the friendliest ambience for all Caravan and Motorhome Club members and Alan Rogers customers.
This is a beautiful campsite between Lot & The Dordogne and close to the picturesque village of Rocamadour. With just 75 touring pitches over 4Ha, there is plenty of space between emplacements, many of which are riverside. The area itself is famous for its Gastronomy and fresh produce, including, of course, the local cheese from Rocamadour; you will also find three cycle routes crossing the Lot Valley that are suitable for all ages and abilities, as well as many opportunities to walk and enjoy the local rivers. English is spoken, and you will receive a warm welcome from Thibaud and Anne; the reception area is also where all the facilities are located, including a small shop and both indoor and outdoor bar. The campsite is also level, which makes access very easy.
This large, mature site is alongside the main N340/A7 Costa del Sol coast road, 12 km. east of Marbella and 15 km. from Fuengirola. The Costa del Sol is also known as the Costa del Golf and fittingly there is a major golf course alongside the site. The site is set amongst tall pine trees which provide shade for the pitches (there are some huge areas for large units). The 250 touring pitches, a mix of level and sloping (chocks advisable), all have electricity (10A), but long leads may be required for some. There is a separate area on the western side for groups of younger guests.
We are all aware of the importance of doing all we can to protect the planet for future generations. We are aware of many of the outstanding initiatives taken by our partner campsites to protect and enhance their environments and want to recognise these initiatives.
Camping Resort La Yole is an attractive and well-run site, two kilometres from a sandy beach. It offers 362 pitches, of which 91 mobile homes are either privately owned or available to rent. There are 133 touring pitches, most with shade and separated by bushes and trees. An area at the rear of the site is a little more open. All the pitches are of at least 100 sq.m. and have electricity (10A), water and drainage. The pool complex includes an attractive outdoor pool, a paddling pool, slide and an indoor heated pool with jacuzzi. There has been a recent extension to the pool area. There are also gym facilities and entertainment is organised in high season. This is a clean and tidy site, ideal for families with children and you will receive a helpful and friendly welcome.
Camping Kikopark Playa is a smart site nestling behind protective dunes alongside a Blue Flag beach. There are sets of attractively tiled steps over the dunes or a long boardwalk near the beach bar (suitable for prams and wheelchairs) to take you to the fine white sandy beach and the sea. From the central reception point (where good English is spoken), flat, fine gravel pitches and access roads are divided to the left and right.
We are delighted to work with campsites, which although they have a relatively small number of pitches, offer superb service and a charming environment for customers.
With easy access from the A6 autoroute and the N6, this attractive and welcoming site is perfect for overnight stops. But stay awhile and get to know this delightful region with its wine heritage, historical monuments and magical rolling landscape. This is a neat, well-ordered campsite situated in the heart of Beaujolais. It's surrounded by vineyards and just walking distance (within 1 km) of the pretty village of Fleurie (one of the premier Beaujolais crus). Here you'll find all the shops and amenities you'll need.
Camping Ribamar lies to the north of Alcossebre, tucked away within the National Park of the Sierra de Irta, a magnificent landscape of intense colours. Alcossebre is a delightful resort town which has retained its Spanish identity, unlike some of the larger resorts to the north, and offers three Blue Flag beaches and a wealth of cafés and restaurants. Although a little over two hours drive south of Barcelona, this is a very underpopulated region with excellent long-distance footpaths and cycle paths.
For many people, it would be unthinkable to take a holiday without their four legged friends. Dogs are generally made welcome on most campsites across Europe but many sites have added special facilities to ensure that they really are ‘dog friendly’, so this award recognises the very best in this respect.
Castel Camping La Garangeoire is a stunning campsite situated some 15 km inland, near the village of Saint Julien-des-Landes. Set in 200 hectares of parkland surrounding the small château of la Garangeoire, of which there is an outstanding view as you approach through the gates. With a spacious, relaxed atmosphere, the main camping areas are on either side of the old road, edged with mature trees.
The staff at this beautiful campsite offer a warm welcome to visitors. Situated on the edge of the little town of Pontorson, 9 km. from Mont Saint-Michel, the site has 152 pitches, including 118 for touring units. Most have 16A electricity and 24 really large pitches, some of which have water and drainage. Excellent private sanitary facilities are also available on 12 luxury pitches. The comfortable reception area incorporates a pleasant bar where breakfast is served. This opens onto the swimming pool terrace. The site is attractively laid out and includes a Japanese garden. Haliotis (which takes its name from a large shell) is next to the River Couesnon, and it is possible to walk, cycle and canoe along the river to Mont Saint-Michel, though an auberge at half-distance could provide a welcome break!
Many sites claim to be family-friendly, but this award acknowledges the sites we feel to be the best in this respect. This award will be presented to campsites which provide excellent facilities for children, and which can guarantee truly memorable holidays for all the family.
This popular site is run in a personal and friendly way. The 200 pitches for touring units (some with hardstandings for larger units) are laid out in small groups, divided by hedges and trees and all with 10A electrical connections. Cars are mostly parked in areas around the perimeter and 100 static caravans, confined to one section of the site, are entirely unobtrusive. Reception, a pleasant, good quality restaurant, bar and a snack bar are grouped around a courtyard-style entrance which is decorated with seasonal flowers. The site has a small outdoor, heated pool (13.5x7 m) with a separate paddling pool and imaginative children’s play equipment. A member of the Holland Tulip Parcs Group.
This is a peaceful, rural site close to the Normandy coast and the pretty harbour town of Honfleur, where you are assured of a friendly welcome from the new resident owners. There are around 130 pitches, 82 for tourers, all with 4/8/13A electricity. Some have shade, while others are more open. There are 30 mobile homes and a thatched cottage to rent. An open field houses tents and other units not requiring electricity. Well fenced streams, popular with young anglers, run through the site. Improvements have not compromised the French atmosphere, and this is an ideal base for exploring this part of Normandy.
UK customers appreciate campsites that make a special effort to maintain a well-tended and cared-for environment with floral displays and pleasant green areas in which to relax. This often goes unrecognised, which is why we want to present this award.
Le Capeyrou is an excellent and very well maintained site. It is situated by the River Dordogne, within easy walking distance of the picturesque château village of Beynac. The friendly Dutch and French owners pride themselves on maintaining the traditions of a true camping site, but with the benefits of modern facilities. Most of the 125 level pitches have good views of the hilltop château, and all have access to electricity (6/10A, mainly Europlug). Four fully equipped tents are available for hire.
Set in the grounds of a château, Castel Camping le Château de Lez Eaux lies in a rural situation just off the main route south, under two hours from Cherbourg. Of the 122 touring pitches, all with electricity (10A, Europlug) and 87 with water and drainage. Most of the pitches are good-sized, partly separated by trees and shrubs on flat or slightly sloping, grassy ground overlooking Normandy farmland and a small fishing lake.
We strongly believe that travel should be open to all, so we've been working with campsites to encourage them to become more accessible. This award recognises our desire to encourage a more inclusive holiday environment for everyone, regardless of their physical needs. This could include adapted facilities and activities or more spacious and accessible areas across the whole campsite.
Castel Camping Château de l’Epervière is a popular high-quality site peacefully situated on the wooded grounds of a 16th-century château close to the A6 and near the village of Gigny-sur-Saône. It is a beautiful site surrounded by the vineyards of Southern Burgundy. Access to the site is good, and English is spoken at reception. Upon arrival, you will be impressed by the building and its surroundings, and as you drive down by the fishing lake over a long bridge to your pitch, you see the extent of the Chateau’s grounds.
The Isère is an attractive and popular region with exceptional scenery. Le Bourg-d’Oisans lies in the Romanche valley 725 m. above sea level surrounded by high mountains. This compact site, pleasant, friendly and family run, nestles between two impressive mountain ranges, at the base of France’s largest national park, Le Parc des Ecrins. It is a real sun trap and gets very hot in summer. It is only 2 km. from the busy town of Le Bourg-d’Oisans. It has 77 level, hedged pitches of small to average size with mature trees offering good shade (50 for touring with 10A electricity). Rock pegs are advised.
This category recognises campsites that offer exceptional services or facilities, which may include special or unusual events, activities, entertainment or facilities.
This exceptionally well-managed site is ideally positioned to use as a base to visit the spectacular Picos de Europa or one of the many sandy beaches along this northern coast. Despite its name, it is a kilometre from the beach on foot.
Picture beautiful beaches, warm sunshine and the Atlantic stretching away into the distance. It really is appealing, and Costa Do Vizir is the perfect spot for a family-friendly holiday. Located in Porto Covo on the west coast of Portugal, this site has an aquatic area, a beach a few metres away, varied activities, top-end accommodation and high-quality facilities. There is an exceptional fine dining restaurant on-site, and you will find the site's other restaurant on the beach, where you can watch the sunset.
