Alan Rogers Review
This high quality park is on the edge of Pencelli village. Set in the grounds of an old castle amidst the Brecon scenery, the park has both atmosphere and character. It offers excellent facilities in peaceful, rural tranquillity. The owners, Liz and Gerwyn Rees, have retained the country charm but have added an all-embracing range of spacious, heated, luxury facilities, attractively enhanced by potted plants etc. There are three touring fields housing 80 pitches, half with electricity (16A). The Orchard has some fully serviced pitches with hardstanding, amongst shrubs, fruit trees and a stone cider mill. The Oaks taking a mix of motorhomes, caravans and tents, and the Meadow for tents only (with boot and bike wash) are bordered by majestic trees and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.
All the fields are level with neatly mown grass and tarmac access roads. The historic manor house, that dates back to 1583, is adjacent to arched barns that house an increasing collection of vintage farm machinery including carts and rare tractors. For mountain bikers and walkers, a path leaves the village to reach the top of the Brecon Beacons or there is an easy towpath ramble to Tal-y-Bont where there are pubs, tea rooms and a post office.
Facilities
The toilet block is very well designed and includes some private cubicles, two large fully equipped rooms for families and disabled visitors incorporating double showers, baby changing and bath facilities, all humorously decorated for the young at heart. Laundry. Drying room with lockers (a must as this is walking country). Information and planning room. Indoor dishwashing and food preparation room. Motorhome services (with washbasin, soap and hand dryer). Small shop (basics). Playground and nature trail for children. Bicycle hire. WiFi throughout (free). Only assistance dogs are accepted.
Location
From A40 south after Brecon bypass take B4558 at signs for Llanfrynach and later Pencelli (narrow bridge). If travelling north on A40, approach via Tal-y-Bont. Site at south end of Pencelli.
