Alan Rogers Review
This friendly, natural site, with pitches overlooking the Loire, is just 200 m. from the nearest shop, bar and restaurant in Montsoreau and is an ideal base from which to explore the western Loire area. Most of the 90 shaded, level and good sized touring pitches are separated by low hedges but grass tends to be rather sparse during dry spells. All have 16A electricity. Excellent English is spoken in the reception and bar/restaurant. Attractions within walking distance include the château, troglodyte caves (used for traditional mushroom production) and restaurant, wine tasting in the cellars nearby and a Sunday market in the village.
Fishermen are particularly well catered for at Isle Verte, with an area to store equipment and live bait (permits are available in Saumur). Cyclists and walkers could also well be in their element here. For the less energetic, there is a bus service into Saumur with its château and other historic buildings, and all its shops, bars and restaurants. Trains or buses are available in Saumur to take you on to other towns along the Vallée de la Loire. Just 5 km. south of Montsoreau is the fascinating 12th-century Abbaye Royale de Fontévraud.
A modern, well-maintained building provides all necessary facilities, including those for disabled campers. Baby room. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Bar and restaurant (Seasonal). Heated swimming and paddling pools (01/5-30/9). Small play area. Bouncy castle. Trampoline. Tennis. Boules. Fishing. Organised family activities. Boat launching. WiFi (charged).
Montsoreau lies on the south bank of the River Loire, on D947 Saumur-Chinon road, 12 km. from Saumur. Site is clearly signed on western side of village.Link to campsite location map on google
