Baita Dolomiti is a family campsite located in a splendid mountain region. It was very quiet when we visited in early June, but apparently becomes quite lively in high season, with plenty of organised entertainment for young and old. There is a rustic bar and restaurant providing typical local meals. The 130 grass touring pitches all have 3-6A electricity and, although they are not large, there is a great sense of space. The Val di Non is a wonderful area for walking and cycling and the more adventurous can explore the canyons on foot or by boat.
Campsite Penisola Verde is a charming lakeside retreat on the southwestern shore of beautiful Lake Caldonazzo, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. The campsite boasts a private pebble beach with two inviting swimming platforms, making it a water lover's paradise. Enjoy leisurely cycling on mostly flat paths or embark on a mountain hike to explore the stunning surroundings. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Caldonazzo, renowned as the warmest mountain lake in the Alps, offer a range of water sports and a designated swimming area.
Punta Indiani is on a small peninsula on the northwestern shore of Lake Caldonazzo, one of the smaller and most easterly of the Italian lakes. This simple, family run campsite is split into three camping areas. Two are split by a railway line (the trains only run during the day – great for train spotters). There are 115 pitches here which vary in size, all with 3/4A electricity, some with shade. Many have a superb position being right on the shores of this beautiful lake. There are limited amenities on the site, but a rear gate gives access to the town which has all the usual facilities and these compensate for the site’s simplicity. This site is very popular with windsurfers and offers uncomplicated camping at reasonable prices for all.
Camping Vidor - Family & Wellness Resort is a very smart, family-run site is in a beautiful mountainous setting and has the most fabulous infrastructure. The 150 pitches are of average size with 16A electricity connections, some also with water, drainage and hardstanding. Vidor has excellent facilities including a super new reception, camping shop, high-quality restaurant and pizzeria (serving local cuisine with special menus for children), and a café with terrace and lounge. There is a wellness centre with an indoor heated swimming pool with whirlpool etc. (charged), plus a superb beauty centre offering a large variety of modern treatments. This is a stunning site with all you need for a family holiday in the mountains.
Camping Fiemme Village is a picturesque terraced campsite near Bellamonte, Trentino. This idyllic retreat is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to hiking trails, mountain biking routes, and the renowned Alpe Lusia ski area in winter. There are 275 touring pitches, and 13 amp electric hook-up points are available. Pitches are of various sizes, so there is a pitch to suit every camper.
What an amazing experience awaits you at Seiser Alm! Elisabeth and Erhard Mahlknecht have created a superb site in the magnificent Südtirol region of the Dolomite mountains. Towering peaks provide a wonderful backdrop when you dine in the charming, traditionally styled restaurant on the upper terrace. Here you will also find the bar, shop and reception. The 150 touring pitches have 16A electricity, gas, water, drainage, satellite connection and WiFi. Guests were delighted with the site when we visited, many coming to walk or cycle, some just to enjoy the surroundings. There are countless things to see and do here, including a full entertainment programme and a brilliant new pool.
Sass Dlacia is located amid the beautiful mountain scenery of the northern Dolomites, west of Cortina. Pitches here are grassy and of a reasonable size with superb mountain views on all sides. All have 6/10A electrical connections. A number of apartments are available to rent. The site is open all year and is popular for both summer and winter holidays, offering a ski hire service to guests in the winter. On-site amenities include a well stocked shop and a smart bar/restaurant specialising in local cuisine and incorporating a pizzeria, with pizzas cooked on a traditional log stove.
Due Laghi has a modern entrance and reception with very helpful and welcoming staff. This attractive site with flowers and trees is close to the main road but it is quiet, with mountain views and only five minutes walk from Lake Levico, where it has a small private beach. There are over 400 level touring pitches on grass, all with 3/10A electricity. The site has a good pool and excellent facilities for adults and children. A recent camperstop with services, Internet access and restaurant is open all year. The site is said to become full from mid July to mid August, but there is always a chance of finding space. English is spoken and a comprehensive descriptive guide to the attractions of the region is provided.
Nestled in the River Avisio valley at an altitude of 1,450 yards in Pozza di Fassa, The family-run Camping Catinaccio Rosengarten offers 158 touring pitches and accommodation to rent. Breakfast and drinks are available at the campsite bar, and 50 yards away from the site you will find a restaurant serving local dishes. . You can also find a wellness centre at the campsite which is at extra costs and comes with a Turkish bath, sauna and relaxation area. Trekking and hiking excursions are bookable at reception, and bikes can be rented at special rates in the town centre.Close to Mount Vallaccia, Cima Undici and Cima Dodici mountains, the property is 0.6 miles from the Ciampedie-Rosengarten and Buffaure ski area.
This part of Italy is becoming better known by those wishing to spend time by a lake in the splendid countryside, but away from the more crowded, better-known resorts. Lake Caldonazzo is one of the smaller Italian lakes but is excellent for watersports. Camping San Cristoforo is a relatively new site on the edge of the small town of the same name and is separated from the lake by a minor road, but with easy access. There are 157 pitches on flat grass with tarmac access roads, separated by shady trees. The pitches are of a good size and all have 6A electricity. The site is owners aim is to build a happy family atmosphere and the manager speaks excellent English.
Caravan Park Sexten is 1,520 metres above sea level and has 268 pitches, some very large and all with electricity (16A), TV connections and water and drainage in summer and winter (underground heating stops pipes freezing). Some pitches are in the open to catch the sun, others are tucked in forest clearings by the river. They are mostly gravelled to provide an ideal all year surface. It is the facilities that make this a truly remarkable site; no expense or effort has been spared to create a luxurious environment that matches that of any top class hotel.
Nestled under a castle and close to a tiny village, Camping Cevedale has a European atmosphere with very little English spoken, however, you will be made very welcome by the owner. The 233 pitches are grouped in two areas on either side of a fast flowing river (fenced) which generates a pleasant, natural sound. The 100 touring pitches, all with electricity (only 2A), are shaded, on grass and slope somewhat; they are in various areas among the well kept seasonal caravans. Some seasonal campers come here every holiday and most have built complex wooden chalets next to their caravans. We loved it here. This area is known for skiing in winter, rafting, adventure sports, mountain bike riding and trekking. Adventure sport courses are arranged by the management, and access to this kind of activity is one of the site’s strengths.
A set of mountains rise from Camping Faè in the Italian province of Trentino: these peaks are the Brenta Dolomites, making up a landscape that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.Camping Faè is a family-run site with 86 touring pitches shaded by trees, mountain views, and modern facilities. It has a bar and a lounge to collapse into after a long day hiking the mountains; two barbecue areas, a playground, a ping pong table and a football table are also on hand, along with a small supermarket stocked with leading groceries, freshly baked bread and some local products. The team is multilingual.
Camping Punta Lago is in a beautiful setting on Lago di Caldonazzo. This attractive family run campsite, with easy lake access across a small road, has 140 level, shaded pitches on grass. Of a good size, all have 3/6A electricity and 50 are serviced with water and drainage. The campsite first opened 50 years ago and brothers Gino and Mauro continue the friendly family tradition of ensuring you enjoy your holiday. As a former President of the Consortia Trentino Outdoors, Gino knows all about the range of activities available locally including fishing, lake swimming, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing.
Camping Antholz is an all-year campsite in the heart of the Dolomites, with picturesque meadows, forests and impressive mountain views. The 120 pitches, numbered but only roughly marked out, have at least 4A electricity and 50 have 16A electricity, water and waste water. Just inside the entrance is a traditional building with a welcoming reception and a smart restaurant. High up in the Anterselva valley, there are splendid views of near and distant peaks. This is good skiing country in winter (ski bus, ski school, ski lifts) and nearby is an internationally important Biathlon Centre.
Beautifully located in the Dolomites, at a height of just over 1,000 metres, Camping Valle Verde is an attractive family run site. There are 117 level pitches with mountain views, set on shallow, grassy terraces with some tree shade; all have 3A electricity.
A small, family campsite attractively located among orchards and woods, Camping Völlan stands on a hillside above the town of Meran/Merano in the Südtirol/Alto Adige region. There are spectacular views over the surrounding valleys with mountain peaks beyond, and the area offers many opportunities for walking, cycling, mountain biking and motoring excursions visiting Alpine villages, ancient fortresses and picturesque castles. The 55 touring pitches are moderately sized (80-90 sq.m) and are generally level, although the site itself is on a slope; electricity connections are available. There is a small swimming pool, and the site shop provides ‘all you need for your camping holidays’.
Komfortcamping Schlosshof is a hotel with its own campsite of 134 pitches. The site is open from March to mid November and offers hotel standard facilities with the aim of making your stay special. The level touring pitches are between 80-130 sq.m. on either shale or grass, all with 16A electricity and many are fully serviced. The site is close to Lana, one of the largest villages in the South Tirol and famous for its Mediterranean climate. This is a German-speaking area of Italy and a good base for active families wishing to explore this region of natural beauty.

Trentino - Alto Adige
Trentino-Alto Adige is a region of mixed Austrian and Italian influences, and much of it has only been part of Italy since 1919. The landscape is dominated by the majestic Dolomites, snow-clad in winter and carpeted with Alpine plants in summer
Before 1919, Alto Adige was known as the South Tyrol and formed part of Austria. However, at the end of the First World War, Austria ceded it to the Italians. As a result there are marked cultural differences between the provinces as reflected in the cuisine, architecture and language (both German and Italian are spoken).
The landscape of Trentino-Alto Adige is dramatic and amongst the most beautiful in the country. With only a couple of snow-free months a year, the region is a winter sports haven, and there is also a good network of well established trails, which vary in length from a day’s walk to a two week trek or longer. Covering the whole Ortles range and topped by one of Europe’s largest glaciers is the Stelvio National Park. One of Italy’s major parks, it is popular with skiers, walkers and cyclists; the annual Giro d’Italia, Italy’s answer to the Tour de France, passes through here. It also boasts an abundant wildlife, with red deer, elk, chamois, golden eagles and ibex. There are several other parks in the region including the Panevéggio National Park, a predominantly forested area with numerous nature trails and a lake.
There are two provinces in the region: Bolzano and Trento.

Cuisine of the region
The food is a mix of Germanic and Italian influences. Traditional dishes include game and rabbit with polenta, sauerkraut, and sausages with horseradish sauce (salsa al cren). Desserts are often based on apples, pears or plums, readily available from the local orchards. The region also produces a variety of wines including the famous Pinot Grigios and Chardonnays.
