Camping Internazionale Lago di Bracciano
Lago di Bracciano is just 47 km. from the centre of Rome. The site is of a size that provides excellent opportunities for watersports and is inevitably very popular with windsurfers. With some pitches alongside a private little beach, the site provides 110 pitches of which about 50 are for touring units. Our pitch had a full view of the lake, and the gentle breeze made the temperature at the end of June quite bearable. Some shade is provided by large trees. A bar and restaurant near the entrance are behind the site’s small swimming pool and play area. The local bus has a regular service to Rome, and the nearby train station has a direct line to Rome. There are various opportunities for excursions that the site owners will be pleased to tell you about. This site would be a good choice for long or short stays, especially in low season.
Camping Roma Flash
This pleasant site is in a superb location with magnificent views over Lake Bracciano and Castello Odescalchi. Although it was busy when we visited, it was still peaceful and relaxing. There are 275 flat, shaded pitches with 6A electricity (Europlug). A pleasant, covered restaurant offers pizza and a limited menu. Set alongside the lake with its fabulous views, the restaurant complex has a large terrace, as does a smaller indoor area. Elide speaks excellent English and will happily go out of her way to ensure guests enjoy their holiday. Many of the visitors told us that they return year after year and some stay for 8 to 12 weeks at a time, enjoying all that the Lazio region has to offer.
Happy Village & Camping
Happy Village and Camping is a smart, pleasant site set on a hillside with great views from the upper reaches where the hub of the site is situated. There is a choice of shaded pitches (with 6A electricity), flat in the lower section or terraced in the upper area. The restaurant and bar have large terraces overlooking the pools and countryside. Dining here at night is a delight. Everything is neat and clean. Most visitors will wish to visit Rome and the shuttle bus to the local station some 6 km. away makes this easy.
Camping Village Roma Capitol
Camping Village Roma Capitol is located in the heart of the Castel Fusano Pinewood Protected Nature Reserve in Ostia Antica. This site is ideal for those wanting to visit Rome and discover the surrounding area, such as the hills of the Castelli Romani and the coast of Ostia.
Camping Azzurro
On the edge of Lake Bracciano, the source of Rome’s water supply is this small, typically Italian campsite. It has 72 small touring pitches out of a total of 120 and is heavily wooded, which offers shade but limits accessibility. The campsite has a relaxed atmosphere and is a good base for exploring the area. The campsite facilities include a bar, restaurant and pizzeria, a shop providing basic necessities, a football pitch, a table tennis table and you can also hire canoes down by the water's edge.
Camping Valdisole
Camping Valdisole is on the banks of Lake Bolsena, with walks, horse riding, water sports and historic estate visits all nearby, and plenty of comfy hammocks, shaded lawns and a beach catering for those seeking rather less energetic ways to pass their days. The owners have chosen to keep their site as natural as possible to ensure the facilities have minimal impact. The site has 150 touring pitches with electric hook-up points available. There’s a large open space to run about and play games of football or volleyball, a playground and plenty of scope for woodland walks or games in among the forest of native trees. Stroll over to the bar-restaurant where snacks, meals and drinks are served up either inside or out on the sunny/shaded terrace. Or take the DIY approach by picking up bits and bobs at the mini market and selecting a spot for a picnic by the lake beach.
Flaminio Village Camping Bungalow Park
Flaminio Village Camping Bungalow Park is a high quality campsite near Rome, with many flowers, shrubs and trees giving some shade. Being 400 metres from the main road it is protected from traffic noise. Although it is quite a large site, there are around 180 pitches for tourers, all with 6A electricity, which are approached by brick access roads. The excellent sanitary block is close to both camping areas, as is the restaurant, bar and info point.
Holiday Village (Fondi)
This site is now very restricted for touring units with only six small pitches available. However, Fondi is midway between Rome and Naples, 300 m. off the Terracina-Gaeta road (SS213). The six pitches are at the rear of the site amongst permanent units and under effective but sombre, green shading, but are close to the amenities. They are on flat grass, all with 3A electricity, but are not suitable for large units of any kind due to access restrictions. The large beach (with lifeguard) is of fine sand and there is a pleasant grass promenade between the beach and the restaurant complex. Below this complex is a further layer with an excellent boutique and a large supermarket.
Camping Village Roma
Perched high on a hilltop on the edge of Rome, the site is owned by the Cardini/Vanucchi family, who have other quality city sites in Italy. The diverse range of facilities are designed in particular to meet the needs of young travellers and the aim here is to provide a friendly helpful service all year round. There are 100 touring pitches of varying sizes on level terraces. Motorhomes are mostly placed in a separate area where 20 pitches are fully serviced. There is a new swimming pool and a jacuzzi on a terrace with beach volleyball on soft sand, and relaxation areas with a barbecue. The modern bar (nightclub) has a huge TV screen and a terrace to relax and enjoy the cool evening breezes and the views. We visited on a Saturday when there was a superb cheap buffet prepared in the large, well appointed, Italian-themed restaurant. A vibrant site where all can have fun and get good value for money, but the many young people can be noisy after hours.
Lido Camping Village
Lido Camping Village is located on the edge of Lake Bolsena, 1.5 km. south of the fascinating town of Bolsena. This landscaped site has a fine pool (with a high additional charge). There are 600 flat, sandy pitches of an average size with 3A electricity. Some have shade. Sadly all the lakeside pitches are occupied by seasonal or tour operator units. . Leaving smaller and/or less accessible pitches for touring units.  An attractive, modern restaurant, bar, pizzeria and terrace are located on the edge of the lake and have wonderful views over the black sand. Some entertainment is provided. There are a disco, entertainment area and cinema on the site and the site’s sporting facilities are of a high standard. Watch for the extra charges here!
Camping Tuscia Tirrenica
Camping Tuscia Tirrenica is in the heart of Tarquinia Lido overlooking the sea. The pitches are in a wide pine grove and a green area. It is the ideal place if you are looking for a relaxing stay with many comforts and services and all the benefits of the outdoor life. The surrounding area exudes history, the many archaeological sites are proofs of the Etruscan age, the timeless charm of the medieval villages will amaze you, and you will get lost in landscapes and beautiful views where the nature is still wild and authentic. Not far away you can find Viterbo City of Popes, Civita di Bagnoregio known as the Dying City. With splendid sea views over the Lazio coast and within strolling distance of the resort town of Lido di Tarquinia the site is in a fine spot for mixing up seaside days and city time – Rome is just an hour and a half’s drive away. The site has 60 touring pitches, some seasonal. There are also studios and bungalows available to hire.
Camping Pionier Etrusco
This family run site has 250 pitches (with 3A electricity), just under half of which are used for seasonal units. On sandy ground, all the pitches are under tall pine trees resulting in full shade. Orientated towards families, this site in a small seaside town would make a good base for touring the local Etruscan ruins or perhaps as a transit stop. The beach is about 100 m. away and is of dark volcanic sand. There is a bright new bar, restaurant and café (great crêpes!) here now, and the promenade and beach are just 100 metres away.
Camping Porticciolo
This is a small, family run site. Useful for visiting Rome, it has its own private beach on the lake and is overlooked by the impressive Bracciano Castle. The 170 pitches, some with lake views, 120 with electricity (4-6A), are level, peaceful and shaded by very green trees. The bar/restaurant with takeaway and wood-fired pizzeria has two large terraces. Alessandro and his wife, Alessandra, have worked hard to build up this basic site since 1982. They are charming and speak excellent English.
Blu International Camping
This is a small, rustic site divided by the access road to the beach. The very basic amenities could be stretched at busy times. Access to the lake is poor in this area so it is better to travel approximately one kilometre along the lake to launch a boat or enjoy the water. There is a pleasant small bar and restaurant. The site is approached along a very narrow long lane and this may provide difficulties for all but small units.
Camping Village Bungalow Park Settebello
The SS213 hugs this beautiful coastline for many miles, running between small towns and villages and alongside the pine forests that are directly behind the beach. Camping Settebello, a large, attractive and well managed site, is in a rural area but unfortunately the site straddles this busy road and inevitably there is a great deal of traffic noise. The touring pitches are all on the beach side of the site in a wooded area, and all are limited to 3A electricity. The ground rises before the beach and this is where many of the bungalows for rent have been built. With a total of 500 pitches, about 260 are available for touring units. There is direct access to the beach, which also has a fine restaurant that overlooks the sea.
Camping Tiber
Camping Tiber is an excellent city site with extensive facilities and also caters for backpackers. Although a lively site, the thoughtful layout and the division of different areas with flowering shrubs makes it surprisingly peaceful. It is ideally located for visiting Rome with a shuttle bus every 30 minutes to the station and then an easy train service to Rome (20 minutes), with trams operating late at night. The 350 touring pitches (with electricity) are mostly shaded under very tall trees and many have very pleasant views over the River Tiber. This mighty river winds around two sides of the site boundary (safely fenced) providing a cooling effect for campers and it is possible to fish for carp.
Camping Massimo
Nestled on the shores of the beautiful Lake Bolsena, Camping Massimo enjoys a picturesque location about 3.5 km from the historic town of Bolsena and sits right on the shores of Lake Bolsena. The campsite is located at the crossroads of the Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany regions, offering easy access to the cultural and culinary charms of each. The site has 58 spacious pitches of which 48 are for touring units and have a 3-amp hook-up point. There are also ten mobile homes or chalets available to hire. The camping area offers plenty of shade with mature poplars, acacias, umbrella pines, and laurel trees, providing a cool and tranquil atmosphere.
Campeggio Europa
Terracina is a seaside town between Rome and Naples, with wide, tree-lined avenues leading to a popular sandy beach. Campeggio Europa lies just two kilometres outside the town, next to the Via Appia. It has 179 level, sandy pitches, all with 3A electricity; artificial shade is provided to some pitches. With a small supermarket, snack bar and pizzeria on site, it is possible to while away the days relaxing and enjoying the beach, but many visitors will want to see the Temple of Jupiter Anxur and take a ferry to the beautiful Pontine Islands. Younger visitors are catered for with a playground and organised entertainment in high season. Evening events include live music, games, dancing and themed nights. A shallow river runs through the site.
hu I Pini Camping
Camping hu I Pini was built a few years ago by a family of experienced campers and is now part of the Homair group. The 30 pitches, with 6-10A electricity, are set on shaded, grassy terraces, some with views of the nearby hills. The beautifully designed restaurant, with a huge terrace, is typical of the thought that has gone into making I Pini a place where you can relax.

Lazio

Lazio lies between the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea, with the Pontine marshes in the south and wooded hills in the north. Home to the historic city of Rome it also has numerous lakes and coastal resorts which provide the perfect antidote to the heat of the city and its crowds.

Rome

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is crammed full of history, boasting a dazzling array of architectural and artistic masterpieces of the ancient world. Within Rome lies the Vatican City, the world capital of Catholicism, ruled by the Pope, Europe’s only absolute monarch. It’s also the world’s smallest state, occupying 43 hectares within high walls watched over by guards. More historical sites can be found just outside Rome, including the ruins of Villa Adriana, just outside the hilltown of Tivoli. Once a favoured resort of the ancient Romans, the town is also home to the 16th-century Villa d’Este, renowned for its beautiful gardens. Nearby Ostia Antica boasts one of the finest Roman sites. For 600 years it was the busy, main port of Rome, and the site is well preserved.

Viterbo, in the north, is a medieval town with grand palaces and churches enclosed by preserved medieval walls. For recreation, there are numerous lakes including Lakes Bolsena, Bracciano, Vico and Albano. These lakes were created by volcanic activity which also left Lazio with hot springs, most notably those around Tivoli and Fiuggi. Popular coastal resorts include Sperlonga, Anzio and Nettuno, with some of the best beaches lying between Gaeta and Sabaudia.

Lazio has five provinces: Frosinone, Latina, Rieti, Roma and Viterbo.
