Situated 4 km. west of the town of Gemünden, with views of forested hills bordering the Main river, this is a very friendly, well-organised, family-run site with excellent facilities. Frau Endres welcomes British guests and speaks a little English. There are 100 pitches, 70 of which are for touring. They vary in size (70-150 sq.m), and all have 10A electricity and 20 with water. Another area has been developed for tents. The site has a pleasant bar with a terrace. Meals can be ordered from local restaurants for delivery, or the site’s bus will provide transport. The campsite shop sells all the basic necessities, plus local schnapps and full-bodied Franconian wine.

This is a good area for cycling and walking. Excursions are organised in the main season and it is possible for hire a bicycle, ride to Würzburg and catch the pleasure boat back, or take a combined bus and cycle ride. Fishing and boating on the Main are both very popular.

A superb new heated sanitary building has card-operated entry – the card is prepaid and operates the showers, washing machines and dryers, gas cooker, baby bathroom, jacuzzi etc. Two private bathrooms (complete with wine and balcony!) to rent. Accessible facilities, Motorhome services. Bar. Shop. Swimming pool. Beauty and wellness programme. General room with play area for very young children, games and a TV. Upstairs library and Internet café, fitness room and solarium. Playground. Bicycle hire. Excursions.

Directions to Spessart-Camping Schönrain

From Frankfurt-Würzburg autobahn, take Weibersbrunn-Lohr exit and then B26 to Gemünden. Turn over Main river bridge to Hofstetten and follow official town camping signs. From Kassel-Wurzburg autobahn, leave at Hammelburg and take B27 to Gemünden, and as above.
