Colina do Sol is a spacious and well appointed site situated, as its name suggests, on a hill. Close to a beach and to the village of São Martinho do Porto, it has around 320 touring pitches on grassy terraces, some marked by fruit and ornamental trees. Electricity (6A) is available. Numerous seasonal caravans are all well kept. The attractive entrance with its beds of bright flowers is wide enough for even the largest of units. The beach, reached via a gate at the side of the site and a stiff walk, is described as ‘wild and dangerous for swimming’; the village beach is very safe.
The village has some good shops, bars and restaurants and a market on Sundays. This is a convenient base for exploring the Costa de Prata and for excursions to the old town of Leiria, where the streets of the old town are lined with trendy shops, and to the famous shrine of Fátima. A short drive to the north is the fishing village of Nazaré which has a long stretch of sandy beach and has become a pleasant little resort with a marina and opportunities for watersports. To the south, the salt water Lagoa de Óbidos also offers water sports, as well as riding and golf.
