Alan Rogers Review
Hillhead Caravan and Motorhome Club site is set in 22 acres of beautiful Devon countryside. It comprises 256 pitches, all with 16A electrical hook-ups and many with fine views of Torbay and the surrounding countryside. There are 111 pitches with hardstanding and 13 attractive and sheltered pitches for tents. Amenities are to a uniformly high standard, notably the main complex based around a pleasant courtyard and housing a shop, bar, games room and Nico’s restaurant serving freshly cooked meals using local produce, and a Sunday carvery. The site offers an entertainment programme from Whitsun onwards.
The children’s play area is outstanding with a range of imaginative items including a large wooden fort. The swimming pool (June to September) is sheltered by hedges and has been well placed to catch the sun all day. Timed sessions may be necessary during busy periods. With its range of pitches, levels and open spaces, the site has a village-like feel. Hillhead is rightly proud of its strong commitment to sound environmental practice, with a plan to promote species diversity and the encouragement of good practice by site workers and visitors alike. There are miles of sandy beaches, an 18-hole golf course, pitch and putt, tennis, fishing, sailing, steam railway trips and a zoo, all within easy reach. The busy town of Brixham is less than two miles away, Paignton and Torquay are nearby and the ferry across to the pretty harbour of Dartmouth is only a 5 minute drive from the site. For walkers, a lovely stroll along the cliffs takes you to down to sandy beach at Broadsands.
