Alan Rogers Review
Golden Square Caravan & Camping Park is a popular, high quality, family-owned park. An exceptionally attractive caravan park has been created from an old quarry with a number of separate, level bays that have superb views over the North Yorkshire Moors. The pitches are individually marked with car parking alongside. In very dry weather the ground can be hard so rock pegs would be needed (even in wet weather the park is well drained). All pitches have 10A electricity, 24 have drainage and six are deluxe pitches (with waste water, sewerage, electricity, water and TV aerial connections). There are some seasonal pitches and holiday caravan homes for sale.
A well stocked shop sells locally sourced produce, including homemade fresh bread and cakes, dairy produce, groceries, newspapers, gas, gifts and camping accessories. Visitors may use the Ampleforth College sports centre (charged), with its indoor pool, tennis and gym, etc. The area abounds with footpaths and three well known, long distance footpaths are nearby. Dog owners are welcome with two or three enormous fields for exercising alongside the park.
Two stone-built toilet blocks are first rate, modern and well equipped with underfloor heating, with some washbasins in private cubicles. Showers are free. Bathroom (£1) also houses baby facilities. Both ladies and men have full facilities for disabled visitors. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Tourist information room also houses a microwave. Well stocked shop. Two excellent play areas. Games field and a barn with games. Bicycle hire. All year caravan storage. CCTV. WiFi throughout (charged).
From York take B1363 to Helmsley. At Oswaldkirk Bank Top turn left on B1257 to Helmsley. Once on B1257 take second left signed Ampleforth and caravan route to site.
