France, Franche-Comté, Doubs, Baume-les-Dames
Alan Rogers Review
Le Domaine d’Aucroix is a holiday complex close to the attractive town of Baume-les-Dames. As well as the campsite, there is a chalet village, a motorhome park and a bar/restaurant with rental accommodation above, as well as mooring facilities on the Canal du Rhin au Rhône. The campsite offers 49 grassy pitches, all with 16A electricity. There are 20 pitches on hardstandings for motorhomes. The Nantes – Budapest cycle route passes close to the site, and there are many excellent hiking trails through the forest-covered hills surrounding the site. Various activities are organised in high season including artistic and sporting events for children, accompanied walks and themed evenings.
Baume-les-Dames is an excellent base for exploring Franche-Comté, and has an attractive historic centre, and several markets every week, as well as a good selection of shops and restaurants. The tourist office has all the information you would expect, but also sells an excellent and inexpensive guide for walkers giving details of forty way-marked paths through the hills around the town. The Swiss border is within easy reach. Besancon, to the west, is the region’s capital and is classified on UNESCO’s world heritage list. It is also often credited as being France’s first ‘green city’.
Central toilet block with washbasins in cabins, preset showers, facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. Play area (2-8 yrs). Central playing field with table tennis, small football pitch and volleyball. Entertainment and activities (peak season). Free WiFi over part of site. Chalets to rent.
From A36 Beaune-Mulhouse motorway take exit 5 to Baume-les-Dames, follow signs to town centre, then turn south towards Pontarlier. Cross bridge and turn sharp right on D277 for Esnans; continue alongside canal past Capitainerie and Halte Camping-cars to site on left.Link to campsite location map on google
