Alan Rogers Review
This excellent and spacious, family run site is set in the grounds of a 19th-century château. It is great campsite when you’re travelling via Calais as it is situated quite close to the Channel ports and tunnel, providing overnight accommodation together with a range of facilities for longer stays. There are 110 touring pitches, all with 10A electricity hook-ups and 31 with hardstanding however most of the grass pitches have . These are interspersed with 20 privately owned mobile homes and caravans with a further 18 for hire. Most pitches are delineated by trees and hedging. Mature trees form the perimeter of the site, through which there is access to woodland walks. Even when the site is busy, there is still a sense of space with large green areas kept free of caravans and tents.
The World War Two Blockhaus, a V1 launch site, is worthy of a visit, as is La Coupole at Saint Omer, which also dates from this period and is equally fascinating. There is a market at Watten on Fridays and at Saint Omer on Saturdays. Boat trips on the pretty Audomarais marshes are a peaceful way to spend an afternoon.
Two sanitary blocks with good showers and some washbasins in cubicles. Good facilities for babies and disabled visitors. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Bar, grill restaurant and takeaway (All Start May-Mid Sept). Swimming pools (Start May-Mid Sept). Playground. Multisports court. Tennis. Pétanque. Room for children. From Calais follow D943 (St Omer) for 25 km. Southeast of Nordausques take D221 (east). Follow site signs for 5-6 km. From Dunkirk ferry follow signs for St Omer D300. At Watten roundabout exit right (Gandspette) following site signs.Link to campsite location map on google
