Alan Rogers Review of Camping Mariposa

Mariposa is a rather cramped beachside site with access to a fine sand beach, beyond an unsightly high mesh security fence. The pitches are of various sizes (50-80 sq.m). Those close to the beach are on the road, against the fence and difficult to identify. They have 6A electricity and long leads may be required. Those away from the sea are beneath trees. Cars must be parked away from the pitches. There is a limited entertainment programme in high season. The amenities are by the site entrance and include a pizzeria, bar and restaurant with TV. The small shop is also here.

The beach has soft sand and is safe, with umbrellas and loungers for hire. The hawkers were a real nuisance when we visited, and we did not feel particularly secure within the site. The range of sports available here is good for active young visitors. The town with all the usual facilities is very close by. Alghero (1.5 km) is interesting to explore as it still has a strong Catalan flavour from its 400-year occupation by the Spanish.

The open plan sanitary facilities are clean, with cold water to washbasins. Hot showers (€ 0.50 token). Washing machines and dryer. Motorhome services. Shop. Restaurant and bar. Bicycle hire. Kite surfing. Diving. Windsurfing. Stand-up paddling. Sailing. Surfing. Paragliding. (Courses available at extra charge). Communal barbecue. Dogs are not accepted in August.

Directions to Camping Mariposa

Alghero is on the northwest coast, 35 km. southwest of Sassari. Mariposa is at the north end of the town. Follow the signs on the beach road, but watch for one-way systems which you have to navigate.
