Camping des Familles is a friendly, family site located in the countryside and offers a relaxed atmosphere. It lies on the promontory of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary, the largest river estuary in Europe. There are 100 pitches with 46 on level grass for touring, all with 6-10A electricity, neatly hedged and with small trees giving some shade. Mobile homes are also available to rent. It is in the Médoc region just north of Bordeaux, an area famous for its vineyards, woods, sandy beaches, rolling dunes, marshes and châteaux.

There is plenty to do and see in the area. For cyclists, the site is just 3 km. from the ‘Velodyssey’, a waymarked cycle track which runs the length of the Gironde. The beach at Le Gurp is within 5 km. and a ferry at Le Verdon will take you across the estuary to Royan. Markets can be found at Montalivet, Saint Vivien and Soulac and the largest freshwater lake in France, Lac d’Hourtin-Carcans (30 km), with a surface area of 6,600 hectares, provides numerous outdoor and watersports activities for all the family.

Two toilet blocks with all necessary facilities, including those for babies and accessible facilities. Washing machine and dryer. Small, basic shop (bread to order), bar and snack bar with takeaway (all 1/6-mid Sept). Heated pool and paddling pool with slide (1/6-mid Sept). Playground. Multisports area. Games room. Entertainment once a week. Bicycle hire. Communal barbecue area. WiFi throughout (charged).

Directions to Camping des Familles

Leave the A360 autoroute around Bordeaux at junction 8 and take D1215 northeast for about 74 km. At roundabout take VC11 southwest for 3.5 km. Bear left onto Chemin de la Franque, site in about 500 m.
