Alan Rogers Review of Camping Chapella

If you’re looking for a simple campsite set amidst glorious scenery and well-placed for exploring the area's possibilities for outdoor activities, then here it is. Camping Chapella doesn’t even boast a reception, but it has glorious views of the valley with its pine-covered slopes and snow-capped mountains. There's canoeing on the cascading river, mountain meadows, and densely forested slopes to hike and cycle through. There's a family-friendly feel, and everyone can enjoy the serenity of the natural surroundings.

There are 100 modestly sized pitches, 80 for touring, set amongst the pines, perhaps in a clearing or overlooking the tumbling river. Some are level, and all have 16A electricity. However, they are unmarked and are clearly allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so not all have access to electricity when it is busy. There are warning signs about entering the river, which is about 50 feet below the level of the site because the water level can be suddenly affected by hydroelectric power activity further upstream.

Facilities at Camping Chapella

The modern heated toilet block is of a good standard and well maintained, with free hot showers and some washbasins in cabins. Washing machine and dryer. Motorhome services. Groceries and fresh bread (early May - mid Sept). Playground. River swimming. WiFi (charged). Limited railway noise is possible.
