Since 1959, Les Castels has embodied a pioneering vision of top-of-the-range camping in France, based on a rare alliance between historic heritage, unspoilt nature and French-style hospitality. Born of the ambition to promote exceptional estates while meeting the changing expectations of holidaymakers, the association now brings together a unique collection of independent campsites committed to sustainable, unique and authentic tourism.
This attractive, high quality site, ideal for families with young children, is in a rural setting and well situated for exploring the less well known eastern part of the Loire Valley. Two lakes (one for boating, one for fishing) and a pool complex have been attractively landscaped in 18 hectares of former farmland, blending old and new with natural wooded areas and more open grassland with rural views. There are 245 large, level grass pitches with 120 for touring units. All have at least 10A electricity, 15 have water, waste water and 16A electricity, and some 30 have hardstanding. Eight have individual en-suite sanitary units beside the pitch.
Set in the grounds of a château, Castel Camping le Château de Lez Eaux lies in a rural situation just off the main route south, under two hours from Cherbourg. Of the 122 touring pitches, all with electricity (10A, Europlug) and 87 with water and drainage. Most of the pitches are good-sized, partly separated by trees and shrubs on flat or slightly sloping, grassy ground overlooking Normandy farmland and a small fishing lake.
A beautiful setting in the grounds of a French Chateaux just 6 km from the main beach in Saint-Malo, and the bus stops just 400m from the site gates; you are also just 2 km from the sea if you fancy a dip. The site is also just a short drive from the ferry terminal, so it could be used as an initial overnight upon arrival in France, although most guests seemed to be staying much longer. The location is ideal for exploring Brittany as you are on the Emerald Coast close to Mont St Micheal and Cancale. The site facilities are of an excellent standard, having been recently refurbished.
Castel Camping La Garangeoire is a stunning campsite situated some 15 km inland, near the village of Saint Julien-des-Landes. Set in 200 hectares of parkland surrounding the small château of la Garangeoire, of which there is an outstanding view as you approach through the gates. With a spacious, relaxed atmosphere, the main camping areas are on either side of the old road, edged with mature trees.
Castel Camping Château de l’Epervière is a popular high-quality site peacefully situated on the wooded grounds of a 16th-century château close to the A6 and near the village of Gigny-sur-Saône. It is a beautiful site surrounded by the vineyards of Southern Burgundy. Access to the site is good, and English is spoken at reception. Upon arrival, you will be impressed by the building and its surroundings, and as you drive down by the fishing lake over a long bridge to your pitch, you see the extent of the Chateau’s grounds.
Le Château de Poinsouze is a well-established site arranged on an open, gently sloping, grassy park with views over a small lake and château. It is an attractive, well-maintained, high-quality site in the unspoilt Limousin region.
This attractive and peaceful site, close to Le Mans, is situated in the park of a 19th-century château in the heart of the Sarthe countryside. There are 90 very large pitches all with 10A electricity, although long leads may be required in some places. Some pitches adjoin woodland, many are around the edges of the lawns and completely open, and a few overlook a small fishing lake. New premium pitches are also equipped with unlimited WiFi, furniture and parasol, barbecue and fridge. The pitches are unobtrusively marked out and this enhances the feeling of spaciousness around the old château.
This impressive site in the grounds of the Château des Ormes is in the northeast part of Brittany, in an estate of wooded parkland and lakes. With many facilities and a wide range of accommodations such as treehouses, floating cabins, wooden chalets, etc. Of the 696 pitches, 136 are for tourers (most with 6A electricity, some with 16A and their own water and wastewater). They are of varying sizes (80-150 sq.m), and there is a choice of terrain – flat or gently sloping, wooded, walled or open. The rest are occupied by tour operators (560) and mobile homes (120 to rent).
Castel Camping Parc de Fierbois has a wide variety of accommodation to rent if you're not bringing your own caravan or tent. There's a range of Mobile homes, Chalets, Gîtes and Treehouses. The campsite provides plenty of opportunities for a restful family holiday, but there are many activities for everyone if you prefer to be more active.
Castel Camping le Château de Martragny is an attractive site in the parkland of a château. Close to D-Day beaches and Bayeux, it is also convenient for the ports of Caen and Cherbourg, and has the facilities and charm to encourage both long stays and stopovers. The pleasant lawns surrounding and approaching the château take 160 touring units, with electricity connections (10A, some longer leads required). Most pitches are divided by either a small hedge or a few trees. In contrast to the busyness of Bayeux, the de Chassey family ensure you can enjoy the peace and calm of their home when you enjoy a glass of wine in the lovely courtyard, surrounded by the warm ancient stonework.
Castel Camping Le Brévedent is a well-established, traditional site with 132 pitches (105 for touring units, 31 used by tour operators) set in the grounds of an elegant, 18th-century hunting pavilion. Pitches are around the fishing lake in the lower gardens (level) or the old orchard (gently sloping). All have 10A electricity.
Les Castels Camping de La Bien-Assise is a mature and well-developed campsite on the grounds of a country house dating back to the 1500s. There are around 200 grassy pitches here, including 4 with hardstanding; pitches are large, between 90m2 & 190m2 level and divided by well-manicured hedges. All have 10 amp E.H.U., but you have a choice of pitch upgrades: Simple, Drainage, or Premium. They're connected by surfaced and gravel roads and are of a good size (up to 300 sq.m), with well-maintained shrubs and hedging dividing most of the pitches.
Le Domaine de Sévenier is a modern, high-quality chalet complex enjoying a hilltop location with fine panoramic views over the surrounding garrigue, a unique mix of oak trees, juniper, rosemary and thyme. Located 4 km. from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and 800 m. from the pretty village of Lagorce, the domaine is an old winery that has been sensitively converted and offers accommodation in well-appointed wooden chalets serving the needs of families, both large and small.
