Camping des Pêches

This touring campsite is on the side of Lake Biel and the river Thielle, close to the old town of Le Landeron, in the west of Switzerland. The site is divided into two sections, with residential seasonal caravans on one side, and a more modern campsite for tourists on the other. The 160 touring pitches are all on level grass, numbered but not separated; a few have shade, all have 13A electricity and many conveniently placed water points.

Facilities are well maintained and in good condition. The campsite has outdoor play areas for children, a shop and restaurant – a full list is available online. There is also free entry to an outdoor community swimming pool on the shore of Lake Biel, located five minutes by foot from the campsite, which features an Olympic-size pool and two water slides.

Neuchâtel

The nearby town of Le Landeron boasts a well-preserved old town with a good selection of eateries and shops. In the modern part you’ll find a train station with good links to the picturesque and historic cities of Neuchâtel (15 minutes by train) and Bern (45-60 minutes, with one change) – both make for excellent day trips.

Biel is just one of three lakes in the area, with the smaller Lake Murten half an hour’s drive away and the north-eastern end of the larger Lake Neuchâtel even closer. This makes Camping des Pêches a great spot for those who want to enjoy lakeside scenery either by travelling around the shorelines or on the bodies of water themselves. If this appeals, don’t miss the opportunity to walk or cycle the Heidenweg trail, which runs from the shore at the town of Erlach all the way along St Petersinsel, a 5km-long island that stretches almost as far as the middle of Lake Biel.
