Le Bout du Monde is a really special place at the heart of the Montagne Noire, on the edge of the Haut Languedoc regional park. Here you can experience life as it used to be. Children help with the animals on the farm, roam the woods, swim in the natural pool and learn to make bread and pottery. Grown ups have a chance to unwind in natural surroundings. This small site is a member of the Yelloh! Village group and at present there are 108 grass pitches with water and 8A electricity, most hedged. The toilet blocks are in keeping with the ethos; one is in a converted pigeon house, the other, under a turf roof, has a bees’ nest behind glass – both however have modern fittings!

A yurt village is a different option. Specially shipped in from Mongolia, eight individual yurts with brightly-painted furniture and a central cooking yurt with chimney (and all modern facilities) look very comfortable. Four of them even have separate mini yurts for children. Even the 36 mobile homes look different with special overhanging roofs, some in a woodland setting others more open in undulating pasture. This is a very remote rural setting with wonderful views but it has everything, including a fishing lake, a farm, an auberge, a wine bar and shop. A natural swimming pool and a traditional pool are organically treated. Farm produce is available for purchase. A number of activities are on offer in peak season including painting classes and evening entertainment.

Directions to Yelloh! Village le Bout du Monde

From the A61 take Castelnaudary exit and proceed to Castelnaudary. Here, take the D103 towards Saissac. After passing through St Papoul, turn left to join the D803 to Verdun-en-Lauragais. Join the northbound D903 (narrow uphill road) and site is signed with distinctive goat logo alongside Auberge sign.
