Alan Rogers Review

The Quiet Site is a secluded, family run park operating as a carbon neutral company. It is situated on a hillside in the Lake District National Park, with views over the fells, just 1.5 miles from Lake Ullswater. There are 100 unmarked touring pitches, most with hardstanding and all with electricity. They have been terraced to provide level surfaces. The camping area is undulating. In a separate part of the park screened by mature trees, there are 23 privately owned caravan holiday homes. There are two cottages to rent and recent additions are 14 timber built camping pods, pre-erected bell tents and a ‘Hobbit Hole’.

In converted old farm buildings, the amenities are centred around the reception and shop and include a comfortable, first floor bar with oak beams and barrel seats. Many beautiful walks start from right outside the park and the numerous activities and attractions of the Lake District are within a short drive. The owners, the Holder family, have developed this attractive, well maintained park with an emphasis on green principles. Grey water is being recycled for toilet flushing, and solar panels provide all the hot water for showers and baths.

Location

We advise the following directions, rather than GPS. From M6, exit 40, take A66 (Keswick) for 1 mile, then A592 (Ullswater) for 4 miles. Turn right at Lake junction, still on A592 (Windermere). After 1 mile turn right (at Brackenrigg Inn) and follow for 1.5 miles to site on right (large units phone for alternative route).
