Alan Rogers Review of The Grouse & Claret Holiday Park
The Grouse and Claret Caravan Park is a very picturesque site with a riverside setting. It is located to the rear of the pub and adjacent to the River Derwent. There are 28 hardstanding pitches that are well laid out around the site although some can be a little close to each other. All pitches have a 16 amp electric hook-up. The adjoining pub serves good quality food and drinks all day every day.
The site is unable to take any tents or gazebos. It is located between Matlock and Bakewell on the main A6, in the village of Rowsley. Nearby is the Peak Shopping Village with its good selection of small retail outlets. This site is also well placed for visiting the towns of Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton, as well as Gullivers Kingdom, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, all a short drive from the site.
The site does not provide any entertainment, but the Claret and Grouse pub next door serves good quality food and drink all day. Although there is a play park, there are no other activities for younger children or teenagers on the site. There are plenty of good walks from the site. No arrivals before 12 noon – check out is 11am.
Facilities at The Grouse & Claret Holiday Park
There is one recently refurbished toilet and shower block serving the site. Washing up area and chemical disposal point. Recycling facilities. There is no on-site shop, although these can be found nearby. Unfenced water adjoining the site (River Derwent). Free Wi-Fi on site accessible to all pitches. Dogs are welcome. Secure barrier at site entrance. Fire equipment on site. The site is open all year. Bus stop opposite the site to Matlock and Bakewell. Cars are parked off site in pub car park rather than on site.
Directions to The Grouse & Claret Holiday Park
From Matlock take the A6 north towards Bakewell for approx. 5 miles. The Grouse and Claret pub is on the right hand side of the A6 in the village of Rowsley. The Caravan Park is to the rear of the pub.
