Skelwith Fold has been developed on the extensive grounds of a country estate, taking advantage of the wealth of mature trees and shrubs. Over 300 privately owned caravan holiday homes and 97 touring pitches are absorbed into this unspoilt natural environment, sharing it with red squirrels and other wildlife in several discrete areas branching off the central, mile-long main driveway. Touring pitches (no tents) are on gravel hardstanding, and metal pegs will be necessary for awnings. Electricity hook-ups (10-16A) and basic amenities are available in all areas.

You will find endless pleasure exploring over 130 acres of wild woodland, and if you are an early riser, it is possible to see deer, foxes, etc., at the almost hidden tarn deep in the woods. There are plenty of paths to follow, leading to a wealth of discoveries, including our mystical tarn, sculptures and breathtaking views of the Langdale Pikes and surrounding fells.

This is a fascinating site where you feel at home with nature at any time of the year, but it is particularly beautiful in the spring with wild daffodils, bluebells and later rhododendrons and azaleas.

If spending time enjoying the peace and quiet of your wonderful surroundings isn’t enough to keep you occupied you’ll always find plenty to do in the picturesque surrounding towns and villages. Whether that involves eating out, getting involved in more energetic outdoor activities or setting out on one of the suggested local walks, you’ll find plenty of choice and the staff are always on hand to help with ideas and directions.

From Ambleside take A593 towards Coniston. Pass through Clappergate and on far outskirts watch for B5286 to Hawkshead on left. Park is clearly signed 1 mile down this road on the right. Do not use sat nav to find this park – this will bring you to a locked gate!
