Alan Rogers Review of Sites et Paysages la Serre
A beautiful site set in ten hectares of gentle hillside and run by Corinne and Patrick, a hardworking and very friendly French couple. There are 67 spacious pitches, 46 for touring, all with electricity (5/10A). Most are on well drained grass with shade and privacy, some are on hardstanding and there is additional hardstanding for motorhomes in wet weather.
There is a small, friendly bar and the site takes pride in not having a disco or karaoke, but preferring to enjoy and respect nature – there are superb views towards the Pyrenees. A range of well-specified chalets are available for hire. There is a marked nature trail passing through a classified nature reserve with birds, butterflies and fields of orchids.
In low season, the setting sun illuminates the snow-capped Pyrenees, bathing them in a golden glow. There are many bastide villages close to the site. The medieval village of Mirepoix is just 10 km. with a good market held on Mondays. The dinosaur museum and the natural cave of Le Mas d’Azil are well worth a visit and the stunning mountain top Château of Montségur is a short drive away. The principality of Andorra, with its duty-free shopping, is easily reached by car.
