Sites et Paysages Camping Touristique de Gien is an open, attractive, well-cared-for site on the bank of the Loire with views of the town of Gien and its château. It has a long river frontage, which includes a good expanse of sandy beach. On the banks of the Loire, as you cross the bridge from Gien, turn right, and the site is just a short distance on the right; access is easy. There are 200 good-sized, level, grassy pitches, with 150 for touring. Mature trees shade some, and many have good views over the river. All have 10A electricity.

The bar and restaurant, with a pleasant outdoor area, are open to the public and meals are reasonably priced. Soirées with different themes are held weekly in July and August. This site is very close to Gien, and you can walk into the town where you have good rail links to Paris and Orleans; the site may be able to offer you a lift to the station or arrange a taxi. Or, of course, you could spend some time exploring this quintessential French market town and the surrounding area of the Loire.

The site is also an excellent first stop from the channel ports when travelling south, around 312 miles from the ferry terminal at Calais. A long distance cycle path passes the entrance. This is an excellent base for exploring the eastern end of the Loire valley, and Gien has a festival celebrating the heritage of this part of the Loire at Ascensiontide. The tourist office organises a wide range of activities, both sporting and cultural. There is a regular bus service to Orléans, an ancient city well known for its association with Joan of Arc.

Two unisex toilet blocks, one heated, are pretty basic but clean and have washbasins in cabins, controllable showers, accessible facilities, and a laundry. The bar and restaurant (Seasonal) are both open to the public. Swimming pool (with removable roof) and paddling pools (High season). Play area and grassed games area. Outdoor exercise equipment. Minigolf. Bicycle and pedal cart hire. Canoe hire. Fishing. Large sandy beach. Some organised activities (July/Aug). WiFi over site (Charged).

Directions to Sites et Paysages Camping Touristique de Gien

Gien is 70 km. southeast of Orléans. Leave A77 autoroute at exit 19 and take D940 (Bourges) to bypass Gien to east; cross Loire and turn north at roundabout towards town centre. At traffic lights before bridge, turn west to Poilly-lez-Gien and site is on right in 800 m.
