England, Heart of England, Lincolnshire, Lincoln
Alan Rogers Review
Set in the Lincolnshire countryside, Oakhill’s 80 acres include eight acres of level grassland accommodating 60 caravans or tents, a five-acre fishing lake and eight acres of woodland with a variety of birds and other wildlife. Two large fields are partly used for rallies and partly kept as wild flower meadowland. Of the 100 large touring pitches, there are just 21 with electricity connections (10A), but there is plenty of space to accommodate tents and caravans not requiring electricity. The attractive fishing lake is well stocked with carp, tench, rudd and bream. The historic city of Lincoln is an easy drive away.
Walkers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the surrounding countryside and pleasant little vilages with intriguing names such as Norton Disney and Carlton le Moorland. The historic market town of Newark on Trent is just down the A46 and to the east is RAF Waddington with its popular Air Show in early July. A little further, but still easily reached, are RAF Coningsby, home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and nearby Woodhall Spa with a good range of quality shops, a well known golf club and the nostalgic Kinema in the Woods.
The basic toilet block has open-style washbasins and just two spacious shower rooms, and would be under considerable pressure when the site is full (although we were told that the seasonal caravan owners tend not to use it). Accessible sanitary facilities, Dishwashing sinks and washing machine. Reception has tourist information and sells tickets for the 40 fishing pegs. Large well equipped adventure playground on bark. Small football field. Caravan storage.
Norton Disney is 11 miles southwest of Lincoln. Site is 1 mile north of village. From A46 Lincoln-Newark road turn east at roundabout 3 miles from end of Lincoln bypass and 7 miles north of A1 junction, and follow brown caravan signs, turning right at T-junction to site in about 2 miles.Link to campsite location map on google
