Alan Rogers Review
Situated in the mature grounds of an old hunting lodge, later developed into an arboretum, le Haras is a rather special site. The 131 pitches are in bays of four arranged amidst an amazing variety of trees and shrubs that provide colour and shade for 100 touring units and some 34 mobile homes (16 to rent). All the touring pitches have 10A electricity, 29 are fully serviced. Some of the access roads are narrow. Under the same family management as Ma Prairie at Canet Village (FR66020), this is a comfortable site popular with British visitors. Rail noise is possible, although the line is screened by large trees.
The bar/restaurant has been refurbished to incorporate a new reception area and a pleasant pool complex reflects the Mediterranean atmosphere. Midway between the coast (about 8 km) and the Pyrénées, in the Catalan village of Palau-del-Vidre le Haras is set in quiet countryside away from the bustle of the coastal resorts. There are shops in the village and l’Ancienne Ecole, a rather nice restaurant. Somewhat unusually, there is also a glass blowing works.
Fully equipped toilet blocks. Facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machines. Motorhome services. Fridge hire. Bar, restaurant and takeaway (all 5/4-25/9). Swimming and paddling pools (1/4-30/9). Play area. No charcoal barbecues. Max. 1 dog. WiFi throughout (1 hour per day free).
From A9, exit 43 (Le Boulou) follow D618 towards Argelès for 13 km. From the bypass at St André, turn left for Palau-del-Vidre (D11). Bear right through village, on D11 towards Elne. Site on right at end of village, before railway bridge.Link to campsite location map on google
