On the border of Groningen and Friesland, Nienoord Estate Camping offers a picturesque escape not far from Leek. Set within a historic estate featuring a borg (a fortified manor house), the campsite provides a unique and enjoyable experience for families with children. The original borg, dating back to 1525, was tragically destroyed by fire in 1846. The current structure, built in its place, stands as a testament to the estate's rich history. Alongside the borg, visitors can explore the National Carriage Museum, a fascinating collection of historic carriages. On site there are 51 touring pitches of which have 10-Amp electric hook up points available. The campsite itself is spacious and welcoming, with the reception housed in a charming former farm. The Van Zomeren family and their friendly staff are always on hand to assist guests.

The onsite pancake restaurant, Pannenkoekenburcht, offers a delicious and extensive menu. Enjoy freshly made pancakes using local flour and milk, along with a selection of à la carte dishes. The restaurant also features a play area for children, both indoors and outdoors.

Beyond the campsite, the estate itself offers plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Families can embark on a fun nature treasure hunt, explore the large playground, or take a refreshing dip in the swimming castle. The miniature railways, both indoors and outdoors, are a particular highlight. Visitors can even take a ride on the steam trains that run outside on a 3.5 km track.

Directions to Landgoedcamping Nienoord

From the A7/E22 at exit 34 Leek. At the roundabout at the end of the slip road join the towards Leek. At the next roundabout do not rejoin the N372 north take the exit before it onto Hoofdstrat and immediately right onto Midwolderweg. Entrance to the site is on the left off this dead-end parallel street.
