Alan Rogers Review

Glendaruel is in South Argyll, in the area of Scotland bounded by the Kyles of Bute and Loch Fyne, yet is less than two hours by road from Glasgow and serviced by ferries from Gourock and the Isle of Bute. There is also a service between Tarbert and Portavadie. Set in the peaceful wooded gardens of the former Glendaruel House, in a secluded glen surrounded by the Cowal hills, it makes an ideal base for touring this beautiful area. The park takes 35 units on numbered hardstandings with 16A electricity connections, plus 15 tents, on flat oval meadows bordered by over 50 different species of mature trees. In a separate area are 28 privately owned holiday homes, plus two holiday homes and a small camping lodge to rent.

The reception area has information and a small shop selling basics, local produce, venison, salmon, wines (some Scottish!) and tourist gifts. Glendaruel is a park for families with young children or for older couples to relax and to enjoy the beautiful views across the Sound of Bute from Tighnabruaich, or the botanical gardens which flourish in this climate. The Craig family provides a warm welcome and will advise you where to eat and what to do – they are justifiably proud of their park and its beautiful environment.
