Alan Rogers Review of Camping le Pontet
Le Pontet is a good choice for anglers, located on the banks of the small River Isle. Trout, carp, black bass and pike are all regularly caught here. The river is also popular for swimming and canoeing, but the site has its own small pool too. There are 131 level, grass pitches with 90 for touring, all with 6A electricity. On-site services include a bar/snack bar and a small shop. Pitches are grassy and of a good size. Most are equipped with electricity (6A). Since the opening of the A89 motorway (Bordeaux-Clermont-Ferrand) access to this formerly remote region has become more straightforward, making the site a good base for exploring.
In the picturesque town of Saint Astier you will find the château of Puy-Ferrat, dating back to the sixteenth century and listed as an historic monument since 1866. From Saint Astier, there are two excellent signposted trails. The Boucle de Puyferrat circuit is a pleasant 9 km. walk, whereas the Boucle de Nicoulou is rather more demanding and extends for 18 km. Périgueux, just 23 km. away and capital of the Dordogne, is a rich in art and history, and its narrow streets are lined with fine town houses.

Centrally located toilet blocks are open in style with washbasins and seatless WCs. Showers not controllable. En-suite accessible bathroom. Bar/snack bar, small shop (1/4-15/9). Small swimming pool, paddling pool (July/Aug). Minigolf. TV room. Play area. Direct river access. Fishing. WiFi throughout (free).

Leave A89 autoroute, exit 14, southwest of Périgueux. Take D6089 west 1 km. At roundabout, turn north on D43, site is on left in 1.3 km.
