Alan Rogers Review of Elverum Camping
Elverum Camping offers around 200 flat grassy pitches located on the banks of the Glomma River. Reservations are not possible, but overbooking is unlikely due to the size of the site. Shops including a bakery can be found a short walk away from the site. With its waterfront setting canoeing and fishing are popular activities with guests. A children's playground features a sandpit and climbing equipment.
Several bungalows and cabins are also available to hire accommodating from 2 to 4 people per cabin. The Valhalla function room accommodates up to 30 people and BBQs can be provided for larger groups.
The town of Elverum has quite a history and served as the temporary capital of Norway during the Second World War. Much of the town was destroyed by German troops, as reflected in the modern architecture of the town centre. Whilst in the area a couple of museums are worth a visit; the Norwegian Forest Museum and Glomdal Museum focus on the role of forestry and the outdoors in the character and life of the Norwegians.
