Alan Rogers Review of Camping de la Bonne Etoile
La Bonne Etoile lies close to the centre of the Ile de Ré and is just 1 km. from a sandy beach. This site is open for most of the year and offers 170 mobile homes, chalets and tents to rent; some are rather close together. There are 3 touring pitches. The island is criss-crossed with paths and cycle routes, several running close to the site. The nearby village of Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré has a few shops, bars and restaurants.
The island’s capital, Saint Martin, is an easy drive away and provides a wide range of shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants. It is an attractive town, whose life centres round the thriving port and marina; there are also buildings of historical interest, not least the fortifications by the military architect Vauban. The south coast of the island has most of the fine sandy beaches, though perhaps the best is La Conche at the westerly point of the island close to La Phare des Baleines.
Facilities at Camping de la Bonne Etoile
Small shop. Restaurant/bar and takeaway (April-Nov). Heated indoor swimming pool with retractable roof (Apr-Nov). Large children’s adventure castle surrounding entertainment stage. Play area and bouncy castle. Games room. TV room. Children’s activities and lively family entertainment (July/Aug). Bicycle hire. Free WiFi over part of site. No charcoal barbecues allowed.
Directions to Camping de la Bonne Etoile
Cross toll bridge from La Rochelle and go left at roundabout on D201, the southern route to La Phare des Baleines. Continue for 10 km. and at roundabout turn right onto the D201E2.
