A friendly, popular site for those travelling to and fro the ferry ports of Santander or Bilbao. Set in a delightful position alongside the River Duero (safely fenced), one may see a nightly roost of cattle egrets. The family-run site is overseen by Eduardo Gutierrez (excellent English), ably assisted by brother Gustavo, sister Lola and son Armando.

The campsite is generally flat, with most of the 150 pitches separated by thin hedges. Pitch size varies between 60-200 sq.m. each with 6amp electricity, although six pitches have a 10amp supply combined with drinking water and grey water disposal. The mature trees permit sun in the winter, whilst in the summer, much-needed shade.

The fascinating historic town of Tordesillas with a number of museums is within walking distance and a visit to Real Monasterio de Santa Clara (C.1363) referred to as ‘The Little Alhambra’, is noted for its mudéjar architecture. The Natural Reserve of "Las Lagunas de Villafáfila” is a forty-minute drive to the northwest. Here a wide range of birds can be seen to, include the Great Bustard. This area is best visited January-March before the water in the lagoons evaporates.

The clean singular attractive modern sanitary block incorporates energy-saving measures and includes: - baby room, showers for children and accessible facilities. On site: - washing machines, motorhome services, mini-market, Wi-Fi (free), dog washing with hair dryer, dishwasher (free) and a bar/restaurant popular with the locals, minigolf, playground. Swimming pool with disability lift, paddling pools and tennis all seasonal. No charcoal barbecues July-Sept.

Directions to Campingred El Astral

Approaching on A6 from either direction exit motorway at J.179 signed Tordesillas. On approach to town, left at roundabout (before bridge - site signed) and site on right in 200 metres.
