A tranquil and very rural site located on the banks of the lac d’Enchanet. There are just 30 pitches, four of which have mobile homes for hire. All pitches have electricity (4/6/10A) and some require long leads. Many have shade and some are separated by young hedges. Fishing from the banks by the site is possible, as is swimming. Large units are advised to telephone in advance for suitable pitches. There are many interesting walks in the surrounding hills and along the disused railway track. This is a well equipped but basic site aimed at those wishing to get away from the fast pace of city life. The main facilities are at the top of a steep site road, away from the pitches, and may prove difficult for those with limited mobility.

This is a good walking and fishing area. There is no shop on site but the Dutch owner takes orders for bread deliveries from mid July to the end of August. Some indoor games are available for children and there is free Wi-Fi. The disused railway, constructed in 1882, is just 100 metres away. It runs over viaducts and through tunnels and makes a superb easy walk with plenty of shade – take a torch for the tunnels. The area has an abundance of wildlife of all sizes, and local walking and cycling maps are available from reception. Lighting is kept at a low level to enhance the natural feel. When the lake water level is low, the ruins of the old village of d’Espont become visible. It is worth noting that the nearest supermarket is 9 km. in Besse.

Refurbished shower block. Washing machine and dryer. No shop but bread to order. Fishing, swimming, canoeing, hiking, cycling. Indoor games. Canoe hire onsite. Mobile homes for rent. Torches required. Free Wi-Fi. Dogs may be accepted but only by prior arrangement (max. 1).

Directions to Camping Pont du Rouffet

The site is 80 km southeast of Clermont-Ferrand. From Mauriac take D922 onto Aurillac. Half way, after Saint Martin Valmeroux, turn right onto D42 to Besse. Follow D42 until the end. Site is on right. Last few kilometres of single track road are narrow with few passing places.
