Alan Rogers Review
This site lies within the Parque Natural Bahia de Las Dunas and is adjacent to the long and gently sloping golden sands of Puntilla beach. This is a pleasant and peaceful site (though very busy in August) with some 539 separate marked pitches, 260 for touring units, with much natural shade and ample electrical connections (10A). Motorhomes park in an area called the Oasis which is very pretty. Tent and caravan pitches, under mature trees, are terraced and separated by low walls. This is a spacious site with a tranquil setting and it is popular with people who wish to ‘winter over’. A 2 km. unshaded walk takes you into the bustling heart of Puerto Santa Maria.
Claiming to be the birthplace of the ‘Flamenco’ (along with Cadiz), it is a traditional Spanish family resort with gastronomic delights in the local port area, supplemented by an abundance of local wines and sherries produced in the immense white-washed warehouses (bodegas) which are open to visitors. The proximity to the ‘sherry triangle’ is very useful if you are interested in this fascinating subject which has had considerable British influence in the past. Sir Francis Drake attacked Cadiz in 1587 and made off with 3,000 barrels of sherry along with firing most of the Spanish fleet! Indeed many of the wonderful bodegas were founded by British Catholic refugees in the sixteenth century – this explains the ancient English churches hereabouts and the very British sounding companies producing sherry to this day.
Immaculate modern sanitary facilities with separate facilities for disabled campers and a baby room. Laundry facilities are excellent. Gas supplies. Bar/restaurant (all year). Supermarket (high season). Very large swimming pool and paddling pool (July/Aug). Night security all year. Barbecues are not permitted 15/5-15/10. WiFi throughout (charged).
Site is 5 km. north of Cádiz off the N443. Take road to Puerto Santa Maria and site is well signed in the town (small yellow signs). From south, turn left into town just after large bridge. Keeping sea inlet on the left, follow for 1 km. to site on right.Link to campsite location map on google
