Situated in the middle of the Ile de Ré, les Varennes is a good quality, well maintained site, 500 m. from a long, sandy golden beach. There are 142 pitches, 57 for touring units with 10A electricity and 85 for chalets which are all available to rent. The pitches are level and half of them are shaded by tall pine trees. They are easily accessible but it is recommended to telephone in advance for availability of pitches for larger outfits.

There is a pleasant heated swimming pool which has a retractable cover so that users can enjoy the facility from early in the year. A good number of communal charcoal barbecue areas are provided as they are not permitted on pitches. There are a number of places of interest to visit on the island including the picturesque port at nearby Saint Martin.

Two sanitary blocks (one heated) with facilities for children and accessible facilities. Washing machines, dryers and ironing area. Basic motorhome services. Small bar with TV and shop (1/5-1/9). Bread to order. Heated swimming pool, covered in bad weather (all season). Children’s club in July/Aug. Playground. Bicycle hire. Boules. WiFi throughout (free). Communal barbecue area. Max. one dog per unit.

Directions to Camping les Varennes

After crossing onto the island, take the D201 to Le Bois-Plage. Turn left at the roundabout to the beach along Avenue de Gros Joncs. After 200 m, turn right and site is on the right. If coming from direction of Nantes, it is advisable to avoid Marans in high season.
