Alan Rogers Review of Camping les Lavandes
Situated northeast of Aubenas, in a quieter part of this region, les Lavandes is surrounded by magnificent countryside, vineyards and orchards. The welcoming French owners, who speak English well, run their site in the heart of the tiny village of Darbres with dedication and enthusiasm. The 70 pitches (58 for touring) are arranged on low terraces separated by a variety of trees and shrubs that give welcome shade in summer. Electricity 6/10A is available to all. Visit at the end of May to see the trees laden with luscious cherries. Organised activities include jazz and piano musical evenings and children’s games.
Situated within the part of the region containing a number of the prettiest villages in France, a ride along the panoramic road to Mirabel is a must. Within easy reach of historical sites, caves and other natural features, this site should appeal to those seeking the real France for a pleasant family holiday. For more active pursuits, a range of opportunities including caving, canyoning, canoeing, walking and cycling, are all within easy reach. Traditional buildings house the reception (full of tourist information), a shop and restaurant with takeaway. Within a cosy bar, is a selection of games and books to while away your time. Outside, a terrace offering excellent views over the swimming pool, the village rooftops and the hillsides beyond. The village is just a stroll away.
Facilities at Camping les Lavandes
Comprehensive and well maintained facilities, baby room and excellent accessible facilities. Washing machine. Small shop (July/Aug). Bar, terrace (1/6-31/8). Restaurant (15/6-31/8). Takeaway (15/4-31/8). Excellent swimming pool (30/5-31/8), paddling pool, sunbathing areas, all with super views. Three small play areas. Games room. Outdoor chess. Electric barbecues are not permitted, but gas and, unusually, charcoal barbecues are allowed. Reception is happy to help arrange various activities, some with discounts. WiFi (free).
Directions to Camping les Lavandes
Site is best approached from the south. From Montélimar take N102 towards Aubenas. After Villeneuve, in Lavilledieu, turn right at traffic lights on D224 to Darbres (10 km). In Darbres turn sharp left by post office (care needed) and follow site signs.
