Les Hautes Coutures is a pleasant site beside the Caen ship canal and a short walk from Pegasus Bridge. Being ten minutes from the ferry, it is very good for overnight stops although there is a minimum stay of two nights in the peak season. However, with the D-Day Beaches on your doorstep, one day is not enough. This well laid out site has grassy pitches, many occupied by mobile homes, both private and rental. There are 25 touring pitches, all with 10A electricity; some are among the mobiles and are of variable sizes and separated by mature hedging, while those alongside the canal are larger and more open.

A gate at the bottom of the site leads out onto the canal path leading in one direction to Ouistreham with its shops, bar and restaurants, and to Pegasus Bridge in the other. The path is suitable for walkers and cyclists. At Pegasus Bridge, there is a historic café and an interesting little museum. The D-Day Beaches are all within easy reach, with Arromanches being perhaps the most visited destination. On the other side of the River Orne estuary is Merville-Franceville Plage, where there is an impressive relic of the war - the German Batterie de Merville, now an extensive open-air museum with the C-47 Dakota and bunkers recreating the sounds and atmosphere of trench life. The estuary is a protected wetland and a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. To the south is the bustling city of Caen, with Bayeux an easy drive west.

Directions to Camping les Hautes Coutures

From Ouistreham ferry, follow D84 towards Caen for 4.5 km. and take first exit (Z.A. Bénouville). At T-junction turn right and after 400 m. turn left and site is on right in 300 m, immediately before re-joining dual carriageway.
