Camping Le Tournefeuille is beautifully situated on the banks of the Sauldre river, on the outskirts of the town of Romorantin-Lanthenay. This is the capital of Sologne, a thickly wooded region in the Loir-et-Cher department. From the site you can go on lovely walks and cycling trips. The Loire River, well known for its many chateaux, flows in the vicinity of the site. The touring pitches are distributed over a large, green field. They have a flat surface and are marked out with a few low bushes. Some of the pitches are located near the river and offer a bit more shade. Once you have picked up supplies at the town’s market (which handily runs three days a week), you could make use of your BBQ here; they will even loan you one if you have not got space to bring your own. The site has eighty-six grass pitches with electric hook-up point 10amp. There are also six wooden lodges available to hire.

The town’s many shops, restaurants and museums are a mere 10-minute trot away, and you are well placed for outdoorsy times in the Sologne area (fishing, cycling and hikes). The river is not suitable to swim in, but cooling dips and splashes can be had at the site’s own swimming pool, which has a retractable cover to cope with whatever the weather has in store. Take a 10-minute ramble up to the centre of Romorantin-Lanthenay to follow the town’s history trail around ancient bridges and mills, roam through riverside gardens and see the cracking classic car collection.

Directions to Camping le Tournefeuille

From the south of Romorantin-Lanthenay on the D765, leave at the roundabout junction with D922 and turn towards the town centre on the D922. Eventually this becomes the D922A at a right-hand turn. Take this and cross the River Sauldre. Continue to a right-hand junction with the D724 and take it. Next turn right on Rue de Long Eaton and the site is off this road.
