Alan Rogers Review of Camping le Repos du Baladin
A lovely, small and friendly campsite that offers an excellent alternative to the larger sites in this area. The owners are aiming for a quiet, relaxing site, attracting nature lovers who want to spend time walking, cycling or touring in this beautiful region.
Attractively and well laid out, there are about 90 good sized pitches, some with superb views of the château, 60 for touring (all with 5/10A electricity, 19 also with water and drainage), and many with good privacy. They are separated by neat conifer hedges with mature trees offering varying amounts of shade. Murol and its ancient 12th-century château are half an hour’s walk away.
Attractive Lac Chambon with three small supermarkets, fishing, bathing in the lake, bicycle and boat hire is 2 km. Super Besse (a winter ski resort), and bustling Le Mont Dore with a cable car to Puy de Sancy, the highest mountain in the region are 20 km. away.
The area is rich in wildflowers and has many interesting villages to explore. Saint Nectaire with its caves, casino and famous cheese is 6 km. Try the local produce: wines, honey, etc. The site makes an ideal stopover and a good base for local exploration of the Parc des Volcans.
Facilities at Camping le Repos du Baladin
An excellent, very clean and central, heated toilet block provides all the necessary amenities, including those for babies and accessible facilities. Bar with TV. Restaurant with full menu, snacks and takeaway (seasonal). Two heated pools (one covered) and solarium (seasonal). Large playground. Boules. Free WiFi near the reception.

Site is 40 km. southwest of Clermont-Ferrand. Leave A75 at exit 6. Follow signs to St Nectaire then Murol (34 km). At far end of Murol at small roundabout turn left up hill on D5. At crossroads, straight across onto D146, signed Groire and site. Entrance on right in 900 m.
