Camping le Point du Jour has a very French flavour and is an ideal location for family holidays as it has direct access to a beautiful sandy beach. It is becoming popular with British visitors who will receive a warm welcome from the owner and staff. There are around 40 pitches bordered by shrubs and hedging, including 30 occupied by mobile homes and chalets (ten for hire). There are some seasonal units, but most are removed for high season. All touring pitches have 10A electricity, including those on the sea-dyke, and 12 also have water and drainage. Fishing is possible from the beach, and small boats may be launched. Kite surfing is popular, and sailing and other watersports are possible further along the beach. Some noise in the evenings has recently been reported.

The site is close to Pegasus Bridge and Caen, whilst Arromanches and the other landing beaches are within easy reach across the Orne estuary. The latter is a protected wetland and a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Drive east for fashionable Deauville and picturesque Honfleur or head inland to visit the quaint villages of the Pays d’Auge and stop off at a Calvados distillery. The site has recently been acquired by the Seasonova group.

Facilities

Two toilet blocks (one heated, the other uni-sex in low season) provide washbasins in cubicles, pushbutton showers, and facilities for babies and accessible facilities. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. All-purpose room with small bar (serving basic drinks and snacks except in very low season; bread delivery), projector for films and football matches, pool table and exercise machines. Indoor swimming pool with section for children.Wellness cabin for hire with sauna, jacuzzi and body care sessions. Play area. Bicycle hire. Children’s club. Library. BBQ rental. Entertainment and activity programme in high season. WiFi over site (charged).

Location

Merville-Franceville is 17 km. northeast of Caen. From A13 motorway at exit 29 take D400 towards Dives-sur-Mer, and left on D400a to Cabourg. At roundabout go left on D513 and immediately turn right along Chemin Cailoué (narrow street, not signed). In 300 m. turn left and follow signs for Merville-Franceville along D514. Site is on right in 3.7 km. From Ouistreham car ferry port (16 km) follow signs for Caen and turn east on D514 over Pegasus Bridge and through Merville to site on left.
