Le Lidon is located within the Marais Poitevin, an enchanting region of over 400 km. of rivers, canals and fens lying to the west of Niort. This site has 140 grassy pitches scattered across three hectares, 115 for touring, all with 10A electricity. The site’s selection of rented accommodation includes fully equipped Canadian-style tents and chalets. The Marais Poitevin is undeniably best explored by canoe or punt and it is possible to rent these on-site. During high season, an activity and entertainment programme is organised including a children’s club and various family activities.

The site bar/restaurant is open all season and specialises in local cuisine. The Marais Mouillé makes up around a third of the Marais Poitevin, but it is the best known part and is otherwise known as La Venise Verte (Green Venice), with miles of conches (channels) and drainage ditches overshadowed by ash and poplars. This is an anglers’ paradise with eel, pike and perch hiding beneath the green carpet of duckweed which covers much of the water’s surface.

Directions to Camping le Lidon

St Hilaire-la-Palud is midway between Niort and La Rochelle. From the north (Niort) leave A10 at exit 33 and head west on N248 as far as Epannes. Head north here on D1 to Sansais, then west on D3 to St Hilaire-la-Palud. Site is signed to right just after village. Long access road.
