This is a most unusual site in the Parque Natural de Somiedo. Winding narrow roads with challenging rock overhangs, hairpin bends and breathtaking views (for 8 km) finally bring you to the campsite at an elevation of 1,200 m. This is a site for 4x4s, powerful small campervans and cars – not for medium or large motorhomes, and caravans are not accepted. It is not an approach for the faint-hearted!

The friendly owners make you welcome at their unique site, which is tailored for those who wish to explore the natural and cultural values of the park without the usual campsite amenities. There are 210 pitches (just four with electric hook-up), undefined in two open meadows.

In this extraordinary glacial valley you can leave reality behind in the exploration of the marvels of nature including bears, wolves, capercailles and a unique wild goat which frequent these mountains. A building, in keeping with the area, provides the amenities and contains many items of natural interest. A small bar/restaurant set tight into the vertical rock face offers traditional Asturian food, but watch out for the local’s stilted wooden clogs scattered in the entrance hall. There is a cool wind here most of the time and a torch is essential at night. Cars are parked away from the pitches here.

There are British style toilets and free hot water to clean hot showers and washbasins. Facilities for babies and children, Accessible facilities. Washing machine. Combined reception, small restaurant with takeaway, bar and reference section. Shop for bread, milk and other essentials, plus local produce and crafts. Horses for hire, trekking. Lectures on flora, fauna, history and culture. Fishing (licence required). Barbecue area. Small play area. Gas supplies. Traditional thatched cabins for hire. Public telephone. No Internet access or mobile signal.

Directions to Camping Lagos de Somiedo

From N634 via Oviedo turn left at 442 km. on AS-15 (Parque Natural de Somiedo). At 9 km. marker turn left on AS-227. At 38 km. marker, turn left into Pol de Somiedo (Centro Urbano). Follow signs for Valle de Lago; 8 km. of hairpin bends from Pola to the valley. Site is signed on the right.
